Duke and Wisconsin roll, Michigan State and Florida fall … conference tournament action has begun

Duke won it’s seventh straight game beating Wake Forest 79-71. Unheraleded Ryan Kelly had a career night for the #4 ranked Blue Devils. #14 Wisconsin ralled to smother Minnesota 52-45 behind Jordan Taylor’s 22 points. Vandy clincged a first-round bye in the SEC tournament whacking Florida 77-67. Draymond Green had 29 points but Indiana shut down the rest of the Spartans as the #18 Hoosiers spanked #5 Michigan State 70-55.

Conference tournament action started last night and home court held up in all four Horizon Conference openers. Butler crushed Wright State 70-52 to get the first of four straight wins they’ll need to get back into the Big Dance. Montana waxed Weber State 66-51 to clinch the regular season title and the top seed in the Big Sky tournament. WCC (Gonzaga and St Marys) and Ohio Valley tournament action starts tonight.

The NBA came out out of its All-Star break with nine games highlighted by Minnesota’s win over the Clippers. The T-Wolves dominated in a 36-21 fourth quarter of a 109-97 win. Michael Beasely led minnesota with 27 points, Blake Griffin had 30 for the Clips. Sacramento celebrated the news of a new arena with a 103-96 win over the Jazz. Philadelphia and Indiana scored easy wins over Detroit and Golden State. Boston, Chicago, Houston, Milwaukee and New Jersey also posted wins.

Free plays went a hard luck 1-3, a point-and-a-half on the wrong side of 3-1. We don’t make excuses at SP3 and will just work that much harder to get back in black on Wednesday. March Mania IS HERE … and if you’re are not ready for the all hoop onslaught, take care of business. All SP3 sponsors are offering great tournament deals with the top bonuses in the industry. Bovada, Top Bet, Bet Online, Wager Web, EZ Street, DSI, Legends, and Bookmaker. They’ll all take special care of of you.

(CBB) Toledo -5.5 over Northern Illinois

At 15-14, the Toledo Rockets are the only team in the MAC West with a winning record. Wouldn’t necessarily put the Rockets on “upset alert” but it would do UT well to come up with solid effort here. A win plus a home win Saturday vs Eastern Michigan would guarantee the Rockets some sort of post-season regardless of their MAC tourney results. The Huskies have lost five straight and 11 of 12 but that’s not unusual with 3-24 teams. Toledo won the first go around 71-41 on their home floor and have absolutely no excuse for not taking care of business here.

(CBB) South Florida +8.5 over Louisville

The Bulls have quietly won 11 of the their last 14 Big East games with all three losses coming to Top 20 teams Syracuse. Georgetown, and Marquette. South Florida is 18-11 on the year and definitely merit bubble consideration. A road win here might just seal the deal. The Cards have three home losses this year and can be beat. Louisville has had problems putting the ball in the hoop scoring 57 or less in three of their last four which were all decided by four or less or went to OT. USF has covered five of six including three straight as a road dog. USF plays low scoring defensive games, take the points.

(NBA) Orlando -8.5 over the Washington Wizards

The Magic have won six of eight and have the third best record in the East. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts with Dwight Howard watch in full effect until the March 15th trade deadline. Orlando is 11-6 ATS on the road and beat the Wiz by 17 on this floor in January. The Wiz getting points hasn’t been a recipe to success. All against the spread, Wash is 11-23 overall, 8-19 as a dog, 5-12 at home, 4-11 vs winning records, and 3-9 after allowing 105+ which they did last night. The Wiz have lost five straight (1-4 ATS) and there is nothing to recommend. Lay the points.

(NHL) Anaheim -150 over the Buffalo Sabres

Anaheim has won nine of their last 11 home games while the Sabres have lost 14 of their L17 road games so the Ducks at a very reasonable 50 cents makes a lot of sense. The Ducks are 6-2-2 in their L10 and also 9-2 in their L11 vs losing records. The Sabres have played well in their recent run of home games but their problems with suitcase are well documented and undeniable. Both teams have already played themselves out of the playoffs with horrific first halfs but tonight we’ll take the surging Ducks at The Pond.

Kenseth finally wins rain-soaked fiery Daytona 500

All three ranked teams rolled in Big Monday action. Kansas put a dagger in Oklahoma State’s post season hopes with a 70-58 win in Stillwater. The #3 Jayhawks were led by 27 points from Tyshawn Taylor. Also in the Big 12, #9 Baylor smoked Texas Tecj 77-48. The Bears rolled to a 40-15 halftime lead and never looked back. The #11 Georgetown Hoyas crushed #20 Notre Dame 59-41 as the Irish shot just 33% from the field.

The NBA returns from it’s All-Star Break with nine games tonight. The NHL trade deadline came and went with no major deals. Rick Nash was not dealt and will remain a Blue Jacket. In news out of spring training, Jason Varitek will announce his retirement on Thursday and move into the Boston front office. The Cardinals and Yadier Molina are reportedly close to a five-year $70 million dollar extension.

Free plays went a perfect 2-0 to get the week off to a fast start. Right back with our ususal four-pack of winners on Tuesday, three in the college, one in the NBA. Gents, THIS IS IT !!! There is just 12 days left until selection Sunday, conference tournament action starts TODAY !!! Are you ready to go ??? If you are, great. Lock and load and take advantage of some of the great bonus offers from the sponsors here at SP3. If you’re not, why not pick an extra out to have yourself covered for any eventuality. For competitive bonuses, oppinionated lines, fast payouts, and great customer service. You just can’t beat Bovada, Top Bet, Bookmaker, EZ Street, Bookmaker, DSI, or Legends. Check them out.

(CBB) Kansas State -4 over Texas A&M

The Wildcats need to win this game to avoid getting back on the bubble. KSU is just 4-4 on the conference road and off B2B monster wins at Baylor and Missouri. These two played Feb 4th in Little Manhattan with the Wildcats winning 64-53 despits the Aggies shooting a lights out 9-16 from beyond the arc. A&M is 1-7 in their L8 and ready to call it a year. Kansas State is a money 7-1 as a road favorite of 3-6 points and should have little trouble continuing thta run here.

(CBB) UConn -3 over Providence

In boxing they say to never leave it in the hands of the judges. That’s exactly what the Huskies will be doing with a loss here and anything less than a couple of wins in the Big East tournament. UConn is 3-8 SU in their L11, 3-7-1 ATS and still are without HC Jom Calhound who will undergo back surgery this week. Whether that will prove to be a motivation or a distraction to the freefalling Huskies remains to be seen but the defending champs really have no excuse to not beat the 2-9 L11 Friars and Pittsburg at home on the weekend to seal the deal on the Big Dance. Lay it.

(CBB) UCF at Memphis Under 132

Memphis has been a major disappointment this year although they are 9-2 since losing to UCF 68-67 back on January 18th. In that game, both teams combined to go 17-31 from beyond the arc but the 55 points in the second half was the more telling stat. The under is 6-2 in the Knights L8 and UCF also rocks the vaunted 9-2 low L11 on Tuesdays. The Tigers are 9-5 under in CUSA and tonight will be about defense as 20-8 UCF and 21-8 Memphis are locked in a battle with Southern Miss for all important tourney seeding.

(NBA) Boston -3.5 over Cleveland

The Celtics have had a lot to deal with in the first half, injuries, suspensions, scheduling but the NBA’s oldest team really has no excuses here, even on the road. Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen have had almost week to rest up and heal and Rondo and Pierce were not real hard used during the All-Star weekend. Boston is 15-17 and sitting in eighth place in the East with several teams breathing down their necks including the Cavs who are just a 1.5 back. Veteran urgency wins the night here.
