Eagles nip Giants as final 54-yard FG falls short

In Week IV’s Sunday finale on NBC, the Eagles beat the Giants 19-17 when a 54-yard FG attempt by Big Blue kicker Lawrence Tynes fell a couple of yards. Philadelphia took a 19-17 lead with on a 26-yard FG with 1:49 to play. After rookie David Wilson ran the kickoff back to the 35, Eli Manning drove the Giants to the Philly 26 with 25 seconds to play but an offensive pass interference penalty backed New York back to the 36. Tynes was wide left on his first try but Eagle coach Andy Reid had called time out. Tynes second kick was right down the middle but just short.

In other games …. Houston, Atlanta, and Arizona all won to remain undefeated. Houston blew out Tennessee 38-14 behind two touchdown passes from Matt Schaub and two defensive touchdowns. Atlanta got an Act of God 30-28 win over Carolina when Cam Newton fumbled a first down run that would have allowed the Panthers to take a knee. Matt Ryan drove the Dirty Birds 77 yards on five plays from his own one to set up the winning FG. Arizona overcame a 13-0 halftime deficit to beat Miami 24-21 in overtime.

In tonight’s Monday Night Football finale, the Chicago Bears travels to Dallas to meet the Cowboys. The game opened at Dallas -3.5 and has not changed. Euros go 8-3-1 in singles to retain the Ryder Cup

No matter what you call it, the worst choke job or the biggest comeback in golf history, Europe retained the Ryder Cup with a 14.5-13.5 victory over the U.S. Down 10-6 going into the final day of singles, the Euros needed an improbable 8 wins out of the 12 matches to retain the Cup. Luke Donald started the day with a win over Bubba Watson to start a run of five-straight wins by Europe. Martin Kaymer sealed the deal in the 11th match with a win over Steve Stricker making the Tiger Woods/Francesco Molinari (Tiger 1 up through 17) result (halved) moot. Three Americans …. Simpson, Mickelson, and Furyk ….
lost the 17th and 18th holes to drop their matches. Ian Poulter was the star of the event winning all his matches.

Keselowski wins at Dover, takes 5-point lead in The Chase

Brad Keselowski was the best at conserving fuel and that was the difference in his winning the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. Keselowski took a couple of splashes with 10 laps left and that was enough to hold off Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin at the finish. It was Keselowski’s second win in the first three races in the Chase and he now leads Jimmie Johnson by five points as the left-hand turn circuit heads for Talladega.

Ricky Hatton to return to the ring

Senchenko (32-1) is a former WBA welterweight champion who was stopped in the ninth round by American Paulie Malignaggi for his only loss last April.

Flat Out repeats in Jockey Club Gold Cup

The 6-year-old horse, by the Claiborne stallion Flatter, overall is 6-4-2 in 19 starts, earning $2,042,383 with the $600,000 payday.

70-63, 51-44, 56-49, 48-45 …. is this football ???

Saturday’s college football’s results looked more like video game stats than football as very few teams came to play defense. If you had the Under 132.5 in the Baylor/West Virginia game, you lost as the Mounties came away with a 70-63 win over the Bears as Heisman frontrunner Geno Smith threw for 656 yards and 8 touchdowns. You read that right, Smith’s stat line in a Division I game played between two Top 25 ranked opponent was 45-51, 656, 8-0. In other action between ranked opponents, Ohio State improved to 5-0 with a 17-16 win at Michigan State. SP3 will have a complete college football recap on Tuesday with the new AP Top 25 and a breakdown of this weekends betting.

The Yankees lost to Toronto 3-2 while Baltimore was beating Boston 4-3 leaving the Bombers and the O’s in a dead-heat atop the AL East with four games to play. Both teams are in good shape to reach the post-season, both teams having a magic number of two. Tampa Bay spanked the WSox 10-4 to keep pace with Oakland for the final wildcard berth, the A’s were 7-4 winners over Seattle. Chicago fell two games behind Detroit in the AL Central and are on the outside looking in after going 2-8 in their L10.

US rolling at the Ryder Cup

Phil Mickelson/Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson/Bubba Watson continued their strong play leading the US to a 10-6 lead over Europe in the Ryder Cup. Ian Poulter birdied the final five holes to gain a critical point in the final Saturday foursome to give Europe a breath of life. The US needs just 4.5 points out of the Sunday singles matches to win the event. Some of the feature matchups in the singles include Luke Donald (-120) vs Bubba Watson (Even), Justin Rose (+110) vs Phil Mickelson (-130), and Sergio Garcia (-105) vs Jim Furyk (-115). Johnson is still the prohibitive 7/4 favorite to win the Sprint Car Championship over Hamlin (7/2) and Keselowski (9/2).
