Harbaugh refuses safety to rock the gambling world

On the field, the San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 13-6 Thursday night at Candlestick Park in Seattle but …. it was Jim Harbaugh’s decision with 44 seconds left in the game to decline a Seattle penalty in the end zone that sent shockwaves through the gambling world. With the Seahawks facing 4th-and-17 from their own four, Russell Wilson found Ben Obamanu over the middle for a 16 yard game, a half-yard short of a Seattle first down. The Seahawk offensive line was called for a chop block which would have resulted in a safety and giving San Francisco a 15-6 (two possession lead). Harbaugh declined the penalty and simply took a knee to end the game. With the line a consensus San Francisco -7 or -7.5, it meant that 49er backers went from a win to a push/loss and that Seattle backers went from a loss to a push/win. Clearly, declining the penalty was the correct decision and that’s why they call it gambling.

Still think that a half point is no big deal ??? Check out any of SP3s world class sponsors to make sure that YOU always get the best of the number. You can never have too many outs !!!

Ducks roll to 43-point first half, cruise over Arizona State

Oregon rushed for 398 yards on offense and intercepted four Arizona State passes on defense to beat the Sun Devils 43-21 at Tempe. The Ducks rolled to a 43-7 lead at the half and the final 30 minutes was essentially football garbage time with ASU scoring two meaningless fourth quarter touchdowns, one on a pick six. Kenjon Barner had a big night for the Quack Attack rushing for 143 yards on just 16 carries and three scores.

In Thursday night’s CUSA matchup, homestanding SMU used a 31-point 3rd quarter to pour it on Houston 72-42. The Cougars outgained the Mustangs 560-384 but had three of their six interceptions returned for SMU touchdowns. Texas Longhorn transfer Garrett Gilbert was 23 of 38 for 265 yards and four touchdowns as SMU won straight up as a five-point dog.

In Friday night’s lone NCAAF action, UConn (3-4) meets Syracuse (2-4) at the Carrier Dome in a Big East tilt. The game opened with the Orangemen as -4 point favorites, the over/under 43. Both numbers have not moved. UConn has won the last five games in the series, four of the five by 17+ points. The Huskies’ second-year coach Paul Pasqualoni coached the Orange from 1991-2004 (14 years) and this is his first time back. Syracuse is 1-4 against I-A teams beating Pitt 14-13 her 14 days ago in a nationally televised Friday nighter. The Orange are 0-4 when they allow 17+ points.

Austin Rehko, a Spokane, Washington HS kicker playing for Central Valley, kicked a 67-yard field goal in the second OT in a game vs Shadle Park. The kick kept CVHS alive in the second OT of a gme they eventually won 62-55. Rehko has a partial scholarship to Eastern Washington.

Tigers sweep Yankees with 8-1 win

The Detroit Tigers became the first team to punch its ticket to the 2013 World Series with an 8-1 victory over the New Yankees to complete a 4-0 ALCS sweep. The Tigers banged out 16 hits including homers by Jhonny Peralta (2), Miguel Cabrera, and Austin Jackson in the rout. Max Scherzer allowed one run on two hits striking out 10 in 5 2/3 innings for the win. The Bronx Bombers scored in just three of the 39 innings in the series and the Pinstripes were swept for the first time since the 1976 World Series vs The Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds.

Cards spank Giants 8-3, lead NLCS 3-1

The St Louis Cardinals are just one game away forpm winning their NLCS series with the Giants and setting up a rematch of the 2006 World Series (won by St Louis) with the Tigers. The Cards struck for two runs in the 1st, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings to beat San Francisco 8-3. Adam Wainwright pitched seven shutout innings for the home team. St Louis can close the series out by winning Game Five at home tonight. Lance Lynn gets the start for the homies while the Giants counter with Barry Zito. First pitch is at 8:05 PM EST.

NHL say NHLPA counter-offer is step backward

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is calling the NHLPA’s counter-offer to the proposal made by the league on Tuesday a “disappointment”.

“The players’ association came back and basically made three alternate proposals on the players’ share, all variations to some degree of the one proposal that they made over the summer and really haven’t deviated from since,” said Bettman. “And none of the three variations of players’ share that they gave us even began to approach 50-50 either at all or for some long period of time.”

The NHL offer offered an immediate 50-50 split in hockey-related revenue and a full 82-game schedule but also included a 12.3% across the board salary cut. The most recent CBA had players at the present salary and receiving a 57% cut in the hockey-related revenue.

Garrett Reid died of a heroin overdose

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid’s son died as a result of a heroin overdose the coroner revealed on Thursday. Garrett Reid, an assistant strength and conditioning coach with Philadelphia, was found dead in his dorm room at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. where the Eagles were having training camp on August 5th. Investigators found 47 syringes and 65 needles in Reid’s gym bag, along with 19 vials of an unknown liquid still undergoing testing. Reid had struggled with drug use his entire life.

“We are confident today that Mr. Reid’s death was the result of a self-injected lethal dose of heroin,” District Attorney John Morganelli said at a news conference in Easton.
