Ball State rips Ohio U, Northern Illinois dispatches Toledo
Wednesday’s college football action featured two games out of the MAC as Ball State rolled over Ohio 52-27 and Northern Illinois dumped Toledo 31-24. It was all ground and pound in the early game as Ball State rushed for 357 yards in its win over Ohio. Jahwan Edwards ran for 167 yards and a score with Horactio Banks chipping in with 135 yards and a score. Beau Blankenship ran for 161 yards and three scores in a losing effort. Favorite and over players made post-game visits to the cashier.
Northern Illinois used a 21-0 third quarter to turn back stubborn Toledo. The Huskies trailed 14-7 at the half and the then hung on for the seven point win. NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch had a monster game throwing for 407 yards and three scores and rushed for 162 more. With the win, Northern Illinois clinched the MAC West and extended their Div-I best home winning streak to 21 games.
Just one game in tonight’s college football where North Carolina meets Virginia in an ACC Coastal Division tilt. The Tar Heels are -3.5 road favorites with the over/under holding steady at 61 1/2. UNC was ripped for 68 points and 588 yards (380 rushing) in its last, a home loss to Georgia Tech. Virginia is off a 41-10 win over Miami, getting an 11-yard touchdown pass with six seconds left to do so. The Cavs are 1-9 ATS this year, 0-6 vs the number at home. North Carolina has won the last two meetings by double-digits. Weather is expected to be partly cloudy with the temperature at game time around 44.
NFL News and Notes
Week 11 of the NFL kicks off tonight with the Miami Dolphins traveling to Buffalo to meet the Bills. Lots of activity with this line which opened up Buffalo -1, was bet to Bills -3, and is now down to two and the hook. The total opened at 46 and is down a point to 45. Both teams need a win. The Fish have lost two straight and the Bills have dropped five of six and six of eight in the series. The Dolphins are 4-0 when they win the turnover war, 0-5 when they don’t. The Bills are 0-6 when they allow 17 or more points. AFC East home teams are 1-5 ATS in divisional matchups. Miami is 4-0-1 under in its last five games. All three Buffalo home game have gone over the total. Weather will be no factor with a game time temperature of around 40.

Clippers trounce the Heat
With wins in their first eight games over the Lakers, Spurs, Grizzlies, and Heat …. the Los Angeles Clippers are making a statement that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the NBA’s Western Conference. Wednesday night, the Clippers beat Miami 107-100 for their fourth straight win and sixth in eight games. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin had double-doubles overcoming 30 points from Lebron James. Detroit, Boston, Houston, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Memphis, Dallas, Chicago, and Golden State were the other winners on the busy ten game schedule. The dogs were a healthy 7-3 with four straight up winners.
Just three games tonight on the usual abbreviated Thursday night card. In the TNT doubleheader, the Nets unveil their brand new Barclay Center to a national TV audience when the Celtics pay a call. Brooklyn is a 4-point favorite with the high/low set at 190. In the late game, the Denver Nuggets are 3-point home favorites over the Miami Heat. The over/under at the Pepsi Center is 202 1/2. The 5-0 New York Knicks are 5-point dogs at San Antonio with the total up a half tick to 193 1/2. All five Knick wins have been by double-digits.
Price and Dickey take down Cy Young Awards
Baseball announced its 2012 Cy Young award winner with honors in the American League going to Tampa Bay’s David Price and the National League to Met knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
Price topped Detroit’s Justin Verlander by one first-place vote and four points in the closest vote since Mike Cuellar and Denny McClain tied for the honor in 1969. Price led the American League in ERA (2.56) and finished tie for the league lead with his 20 wins. He also struck out 205 in 211 innings pitched.
Dickey, the 38-year-old with the bionic elbow, became the first knuckleballer ever to win the award. Dickey led the majors in innings pitched (233 2/3 innings) and strikeouts (230) while going 20-6 over his 34 appearances (33 starts) for the lowly New York Mets.
