Bills crush Indy to complete first full week of NFLX
The Buffalo Bills racked up 27 first downs on 451 yards of total offense in blowing out Indy 44-20. Rookie starting QB E.J. Manuel completed all nine of his passes in the final drive of the first half to give Buffalo a 20-13 lead they world never relinquish. Manuel played the entire first 30 minutes and finished 16-21 for 107 yards, mainly dinks, dunks and quick hitting slants. Andrew Luck was 4-6 for 51 yards in his two series for the Colts.
Dufner captures first major at Oak Hill
Jason Dufner took a two-shot lead into the back nine and held off Jim Furyk and Henrik Stenson to win the golf’s final major of 2013, the PGA. Dufner, who put himself in position with a course record 63 on Friday, became the 15th first time winner in the last 19 majors. His final score of 270 (-10) was five shots better than any of the last five PGA winners at Oak Hill outside Rochester. Furyk finished second with Stenson alone in third. Tiger Woods will have to wait until 2014 for his elusive 15th major, shooting a final round 70 to end the tournament at +4 which was good for T-40. Phil Mickelson made the cut but finished third from last after a disastrous 78 on Saturday.
MLB News and Notes
It was a big day for Alex Rodriguez who hit his first home run of 2013 and also had an RBI single in the Bombers 5-4 win over Detroit. Kyle Busch takes checker at Watkins Glen
Kyle Busch was the best in a green-white-checker finish to beat Keselowski to the line and win Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen. It was a reversal of fortune from last year’s race where Keselowski bumped Busch on the final lap to get the win. Martin Truex Jr. was third with Carl Edwards fourth and Juan Pablo Montoya finishing fifth. Tony Stewart saw his run of 521 straight Sprint Cup starts come to an end. Stewart broke both bones in his lower leg Monday in a dirt race in Iowa on Monday and required surgery. Stewart was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Usain Bolt wins 100 meters at worlds in 9.77
Usain Bolt overcame rainy conditions in Moscow to reclaim his title at the world championships. Bolt was DQ’d two year ago by a false start. Bolt trailed much of the race but ran down Justin Gatlin in the final 30 meters to win going away in a time of 9.77 seconds, phenomenal considering the conditions.
