Boston Update, NBA regular season ends, Braves rolling, RIP Pat Summerall + Tuesday Recap: Wednesday, April 17, 2013
- Updated: April 17, 2013
Boston update, bombs were in pressure cookers, injured up to 176
The FBI and local police continue to investigate the bombings that took place at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon. As of this writing, a large number of suspects and motives are being looked in to. The three dead included an eight-year-old Boston boy waiting for his father at the finish line and two young women. The bombs appear to have been made from pressure cookers loaded with small nails and ball-bearings.
SB3 sends it’s thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families and hopes that the perpetrator of this cowardly act are found and brought to justice quickly.
The NBA regular season ends tonight
The NBA regular season comes to an end tonight with all 30 teams in action.
In the East, the 1-8 and 2-7 playoff matchups are set with the Miami Heat vs the Milwaukee Bucks and the Kicks vs the Boston Celtics. The 3-6 and 4-5 matchups will be determined by the outcomes of the Bulls and Hawks games. Both teams are tied at 44-37 for 5-6. Chicago owns the tie-breaker by virtue of winning the season series with the ATL 2-1. Chicago would appear to be in the drivers seat as they are eight-point home favorites over Washington. The Hawks are at the Knicks and no line has been posted.
In the West, the Lakers can pick their poison with a win over Houston tonight. After the Rockets inexplicable loss to Phoenix last night, the Lakers can leapfrog to the seven-seed with a win. By the same token, a Laker loss and a Jazz with at Memphis would make Houston the seven-seed, Utah the eight-seed and the Laker looking missing the playoffs for just the sixth time in the last 50 years.
Braves win 10th straight, pound out five HRs
If Chief Noc-A-Homa hadn’t been retired in a PC gesture in 1986, he would have been real busy last night at Turner Field. The Braves went yard five times against Kansas City pitching in a 6-3 win over the Royals, their 10th straight. The Bravos needed four in the bottom of the eight to secure the win for Eric O’Flaherty who is already 3-0 coming out of the pen this year.
Pat Summerall dead at 82, was voice of the NFL
If you grew up in the 70s and or 80’s, you grew up listening to Pat Summerall as the voice of the NFL. Originally teamed with Tom Brookshire at CBS and later for 21 years with John Madden, Summerall’s career as a player and broadcaster spanned more than 50 years. Summerall has been in poor health in recent years and passed away yesterday in Dallas. RIP Pat.
Shabazz Muhammad is the latest one-and-done
The obvious is now official as UCLA’s controversial freshman shooting forward Shabazz Muhammad has declared for the June 27th NBA draft. Muhammad led the 25-10 Bruins in scoring with 17.9 points-per-game. Though he is projected to go as high as first and as low as 20, Muhammad is almost assuredly a lottery pick.
