Romo has monster day but late pick costs Dallas

Tony Romo won the battle but Peyton Manning won the war. Romo had the biggest day ever by a Dallas Cowboy quarterback throwing for 506 yards and five touchdowns but his lone pick in the final two minutes ultimately cost Dallas the game. Manning threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns and led Denver on a 9-play 73 yard drive to tie the game at 48 with a little more than two minutes left in the game. Romo came out to drive Dallas to a winning field goal but was intercepted deep in his own territory allowing Matt Prater to knock home the 28-yard game winner on the final play.

Around the horn in the NFL

The Saints and the Chiefs remained unbeaten with impressive road wins. Drew Brees won at Soldier Field for the first time in his career as New Orleans was never threatened in a 26-18 win over the Bears. Kansas City cane from behind to down the Titans 26-17 in Tennesse as Jamaal Charles had 108 yards on 22 carries.

The Seahawks and Patriots were knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten, both losing tough game on the road. Seattle was stopped 34-28 at Indy as Andrew Luck picked up his ninth fourth quarter comeback win in 21 games. The Patriots could manage just six points against a fired up Bengal defense in a game that finished in a monsoon in Cincinnati.

The Eagles scored the final 17 points in a 36-21 win over the Giants to keep Big Blue winless. The St Louis Rams offense got untracked with a 34-20 win over 0-5 Jacksonville.

The Buffalo Bills have signed quarterback Thaddeus Lewis off their practice squad and will start the ex-Dukie next Sunday against the Bengals. Josh Freeman was signed to a $3 million dollar deal by Minnesota and will undoubtedly start once he becomes comfortable with the Viking system. The $3 million over 12 games is more than the Vikes two roster QBs Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel make combined.

Pirates and Dodgers roll in NLDS

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers moved to within one game of eliminating the Cardinals and Braves respectively with Sunday wins. The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the eight to down the Cardinals 5-3. The Dodgers jumped out to a 10-4 lead after four innings enroute to an easy 13-6 win. All four division series are in action on Monday including two matinees.
