No.8 Clemson for real after 38-35 win over No.5 Georgia
Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd had a part in all five Tiger touchdowns, running for two and throwing for three in Saturday’s showdown between two top ten ranked teams. Boyd had 312 yards of total offense and the Clemson defense chipped in with four sacks and an interception of senior Georgia QB Aaron Murray who fell to 3-10 as a starter vs. teams ranked in the Top 25 of the AP Poll. Murray threw for 323 yards on the night while Bulldog tailback Todd Gurley rushed for 154 yards and two scores on just twelve carries. With the win, Clemson is in an excellent position to run the table until the ACC championship game
Bama rolls over Virginia Tech, Manziel gets benched for antics
Defending national champion Alabama was not real sharp but took advantage of a kickoff return for a touchdown, a punt return for a touchdown and a pick six to turn back Virginia Tech 35-10. The Crimson Tide could manage just 11 total fisrt downs on offense but led 28-10 at half and went on cruise control for the final 30 minutes.
Texas A&M crushed Rice 52-31 as Johnny Manziel led the way in the second half by throwing three touchdowns on six-of-nine passing. Manziel, who sat out the first half on an NCAA suspension, was yanked by the coach for the final series after getting a silly “taunting” personal foul.
The Dodgers pick up veteran bat in Michael Young
The Dodgers added another experienced veteran bat for the stretch drive when they acquired Phillies third baseman Michael Young. The ex-Ranger was hitting .268 in 125 games with the Phils this year. Young is owed approximately $2.9 million for the remainder of the season and will become a free agent this winter.
Sergio leads after 36 at the Deutsche Bank
For the first time in his career, Sergio Garcia has opened a tournament with rounds of 65 or less as the Spaniard owns a one-shit lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship outside of Boston. Roberto Castro and Henrik Stenson are a shot back at 12-under. Phil Mickelson is five shots in arrears while Tiger Woods is T-20 and lurking just six back.
Stenhouse has the front in Atlanta
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will leave from the pole in the penultimate race before the Nascar 10-race playoff as driver’s battle for valuable final points. Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth round out the first three rows. Points leader Jimmie Johnson will get away 10th. SB3 will be back with results and a complete standings recap on the Monday report.
