Eagles won’t cut Vick before bonus kicks in
The new Philadelphia Eagle regime has decided to keep Michael Vick, at least for the time being. By not cutting Vick by Wednesday, the Eagles guaranteed $3 million of Vick’s contract. In essence, the move buys the Eagles time to evaluate their quarterback situation. Philly can avoid the money by releasing Vick before March 12th and him signing a contract for more with his new team.
Bradshaw and Canty gone in G-Men salary dumps
The New York football Giants have cut $10 million dollars in salary from their payroll by releasing veteran running back Ahmad Bradshaw and DT Chris Canty. Bradshaw gained better than 1000 yards in two of the last four season but was hindered by foot problems most of 2012. He recently had foot surgery that included the insertion of screws and will need about a 10-week recovery period. Bradshaw would have made a base salary 0f $3.75 million in 2013. Canty and his $6.25 million dollar base was also cut.
Gasol out six weeks with foot injury, surgery possible
A Wednesday MRI has revealed that Pau Gasol has a partial tear of his plantar fascia and will be out at least six weeks. The Lake Show is 18-18 with Gasol in the lineup and three games below .500 this year when he is out. Earl Clark will likely get the majority of Gasol’s minutes in the interim.
Kansas suffers second straight loss at TCU
The No.5 Kansas Jayhawks shot just 1-17 from the floor over the first 15 minutes of their Wednesday night game vs TCU and fell 62-55 to the previously winless in Big 12 play Horned Frogs. It was TCU’s first conference basketball win since enetering the Big 12 and its first win ever over a top five ranked team. The Jayhawks saw their nation’s best streak of 264 games without back-to-back losses (January 2006) come to an end. Garlon Green led the Frogs with 20 points.
Ducks dump Avs 3-0 nothing despite big Valamov save
Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov makes an incredible save in the Avs 3-0 loss to Anaheim. While the big Russian did his best to keep Anaheim at bay, he couldn’t prevent the Avs from getting shut out for the third time in ten games.
