Duke experience too much for UK Diaper Dandies
It was age before beauty in Atlanta last night as a more experienced Duke overcame the Kentucky wunderkind in a 75-68 win. The Wildcat freshman accounted for 55 of UK’s 68 points but in the end it was Duke seniors Seth Curry, Mason Plumlee, and Ryan Kelly that sealed the deal for the Blue Devils. Duke led 62-50 before a late 9-0 Kentucky run. It was the first meeting between the storied programs since 2001. In the first game of the double header No.21 Michigan State beat No.7 Kansas 67-64 behind 19 points from Keith Appling.
Spurs late three sinks the Lakers
The Spurs got a a three from Danny Green with 9.3 seconds left to edge the Lakers 84-82. Los Angeles has a chance to tie or win in the final possession but couldn’t get off a play with Pao Gasol ultimately bricking a long three-pointer from the corner. The loss snapped a modest L.A. two game win streak. New Laker head coach Mike D’Antoni, recovering from recent knee surgery, is expected to join the team on Wednesday. In other NBA action, the Knicks improved to 5-0 and remain the league’s lone unbeaten with a 99-89 win over the Magic. All five New York wins have come by double-digits.

As expected, Davey Johnson of the Nats and Bob Melvin of the A’s were named National League and American League managers of the year respectively. In the National League, Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy were a distant second and third. Melvin’s A’s went 51-25 after the All-Star break and were at one point starting five rookie pitchers.
Just announced, Torii Hunter has just signed a two-year $26 million dollar deal with the Tigers. Hunter, 37, hit .313/.365/.451 with 16 homers, 92 RBI, 81 runs and nine stolen bases last season for the Angels.
MAC showdowns highlight college football Wednesday
Week 12 of college football kicks off on Wednesday with two matchups out of the MAC. In the early game, Ohio U travels to Ball State to face the Cardinals. The game opened at Ball State -3.5 but has been bet all the way up to BSU -6 1/2. The total is unchanged at 63. Ohio opened the year with a win over Penn State but after going 7-0 and getting ranked in the AP Top 25, the Bobcats have gone 1-2. Ohio has won three out of the last four in the series but lost 23-20 at home to the Cards last year. The Bobcats are 9-4 in their L13 as a road dog. Ball State is 8-2 TY covering all eight of their wins. They snapped Toledo’s eight-game win streak last week.. Four of last five Ball games, three of last four Ohio games stayed under the total. Weather will be partly cloudy with a game time temp around 37.
Roethlisberger declared out for Sunday
The Pittsburg have confirmed that Byron Lefwich will start Sunday’s showdown with the Ravens. Ben Roethlisberger has been declared out and Charlie Batch will back up Lefwich. Roethlisberger injured the sterno-clavicular joint of his right shoulder and will not be rushed back. The Steelers have a two-game lead in the wildcard and hope to have Roethlisberger back for the second meeting with the Ravens in three weeks.
