Highlights from a busy sports Thursday night

Just 48 hours to go before Super Bowl XLVI and it can’t come soon enough. The Giants and Pats make their final preperations today before going on lockdown tonight until 6:20 PM EST on Sunday. Pat TE Rob Gronkowski returned to practice on Thursday. Peyton Manning has been cleared to play football by the surgeon that did his surgery. Commissioner Roger Goddell said on Costas Live that if the NFL did expand, it would be by two teams.

Sad news from Texas. Former MVP Josh Hamilton has apparently relapsed and was seen alledgedly seen drinking in the Dallas area last week. Hamilton has battled addiction his entire career. The Washington National signed Edwin Jackson to a one-year contract adding another piece to pretty formidible starting rotation. Sod is being installed as the new Marlin ballpark nears completion.

Sam Gagne became the first NHL player in 23-years to score eight points in a game as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Chicago Blackhawks 8-4. Gagne, who had just five goals coming in, had four goals and four assists. Mario Lemieux was the last to eight points in a game. The record is ten points by the Leaf’s Darryl Sittler.

The NBA announced the starters for the NBA All-Star game February 26th in Orlando. The East features Derrick Rose, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwight Howard. The West is LA heavy with Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Andrew Bynum. Griffin will not defend his slam dunk title. Lebron has indicated that he might be amicable to returning to the contest.

Free plays went a disappointing 1-3 with the Denver Pioneers losing in overtime and the Clippers a home court no show. Looking to jumpstart weekend bankrolls tonight with a 4-0 Friday sweep. Make sure that you check out our sponsors and make your final arrangements for Super Bowl Sunday. Don’t miss out. Watch and win.

(CBB) Penn +1 over Yale

The Quakers have really benefitted from playing an ultra-tough non-conference schedule early on. Penn is a perfect 3-0 in the Ivy and 8-1 vs teams ranked from 150 to 339. The Quakes are also rocking a 5-1 ATS run on the road.
Nothing bad to about Yale who is 13-5 for the year, 3-1 in the Ivy, but … the Bulldogs are 0-3 vs the points at home, 1-3 ATS vs winning records and just 1-3 SU and ATS in the L4 in the series. Wrong team favored here. Penn straight up.

Get a $100 Free Bet when you sign up at Bovada

(CBB) Princeton -7.5 over Brown

It’s been a long strange road trip for the Princeton Tigers who play their 11th straight win against DI opposition. The grind could be getting to the Tigers who were crushed at Penn in their last. That said, this is a team that is 27-12 ATS on the road the last three years, 21-12 ATS vs losing records, and 6-0 against the points after their L6 Ivy straight up losses. The Bears are just 7-14 overall, 3-10 L13 with wins over Central Connecticut, Bryant, and Dartmouth. Princeton gets back on track here.

Get a 50% deposit bonus available now at Top Bet

(NBA) Minnesota at New Jersey Over 196

The Wolves and Nets both play their 4th game in six nights so the fatigue factor is a push. Minnesota has covered seven of their L9 roadies, the Nets 5-4 in their L9 but not interested in either side. A decent case can be made for the total however as eight of the L9 Wolves games have flown over, the high is 11-4 in the Nets L15. These are two of the weaker defensive teams in the league allowing 95.5 and 98.8 ppg respectively and all it should take is average shooting nights by both teams to send this one over.

The more you bet, the more you get at EZ Street

NHL) St Louis -148 over LA Kings

Other than Detroit (20-2-1, 18 straight wins), the St Louis Blues (21-3-4) have the strongest home ice in the league. The Blues are 7-3 the L10 in the series and a perfect 3-0 this year with 3+ days of rest. The Kings have played themselves back into the playoff picture but are grinding along at 50-50 the last month and they still have work to do. The Kings have won both prior meetings this year but the Blues are well rested and situationally in a good spot to get a win here. Take the Blues.

Around the horn with Wednesday’s sports action

Just 72 hours to Super Bowl XLVI. The line has been holding steady with the Patriots as 3-point favorites with slight variations in the money around Las Vegas and offshore. The total has settled at 54 after opening at 55 or 55 1/2. The majority of tickets sold have been on the Giants and the larger bets and sharp money has gone on the Patriots. It’s doubtful that Vegas or offshore will come off the FG but it’s possible so make sure you have suffiicient outs to shop.

Wednesday was National Football Signing Day where top high school recruits committed to where they will play football in the fall. The rich got richer with the consensus top ten recruiting classes were Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Miami Fla, Oklahome, Southern Cal, and Stanford. Other notables were LSU at #13, Notre Dame at #17, and Oregon at #19.

Angelo Dundee has passed away at age 90 in Tampa, Florida. Dundee is most famous for training Mohammed Ali but also guided 15 others to world championships including Ray Leonard, George Foreman, and Carmen Basilio. Floyd Mayweather has been granted a license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and with fight Miguel Cotto May 5th in Las Vegas. Mayweather steps up in weight to super-welterweight (154) for the fight and will then begin a 90 jail term for a domestic violence case starting June 1st.

In the worst case of soccer violence since 1996, 74 people were killed in Egypt after fans stormed the field after and 3-1 upset victory by the homestanding Al-Masri over Egypt’s top team, Al-Ahli. Riot police were unable to contain the stampede that also injured close to 1000.

Sportsbetting3 free plays went 2-2 on Wednesday. No harm, no foul. Right back Thursday with three plays in college hoops and a Nuggets/Clippers in the NBA. The key to success in sports investing is to have enough outs to take advantage of the best numbers. Think about every game you bet that pushes or loses because of a half point you could have had or avoided if you just had another shop. Check out our sponsors and don’t leave yourself short-handed.

(CBB) Duke -4 over Virginia Tech

The Blue Devils haven’t done bettors any favors at 8-13 overall but the Dukies are in a pretty good spot to get the money here vs the Hokies. The road team is 5-1 in Duke conference games with the Devils 3-0, all three wins by 7+ points. The Hokies are just 2-5 ATS at home, 1-5 ATS in ACC play, and 4-9 ATS against winning records. Add to the mix that this is a true revenge game here by virtue of V Techs 64-60 win here last year and that ACC home dogs of less than five points are 3-7 and you have decent case for the intruders. Take Duke.

Top bonuses, top numbers, top customer service at Top Bet

(CBB) Denver Pick over UL Lafayette

The Pioneers have lost six straight visits here and are a miserable 7-26 ATS on the road over the L3 years. Why back them here ??? The Cajuns 4-1 straight up in their L5 and 3-1 in Sunbelt homies but are just 1-6 ATS in their L7 and shooting poorly in their L3. This is a key game for Denver as their final tuneup before their home showdown with Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. If there was ever a time for the Pioneers to amp up on the road it’s here and all we need to do is win straight to. Denver 64-57.

Earn Bet Points with EVERY wager when you play at Bookmaker

(CBB) Nevada -8 over Utah State

Stew Morrill is one of the best coaches in college basketball and he must be dying a slow agonizing death in side with his young 12-10 Aggie outfit. This is a team that won 30-27-30 games over the past three years but struggling mightily this year. The Aggies have lost four of five road games including a 20-point beat down at New Mexico State. Nevada is 7-0 in the WAC, 5-2 ATS, 2-1 as a HF with wins of 13 and 24 points. Nevada won at USU 78-71 (+4.5) earlier and there is no reason think they should be on upset alert here. Take the Wolf Pack.

The more you bet, the more you get at EZ Streets Sports Book

(NBA) LA Clippers -2 over the Denver Nuggets

The Clippers, with Chris Paul, are arguably the best team in the NBA. They have it all with youth, depth, athleticism, and money shooters. The Clips have won four straight since losing to the Lakers including wins over these same Nuggets, a blowout of OKC on this floor, and winning last night at Utah for the first time in forever. Denver has lost two straight after six straight wins and are just 1-7 ATS in the last eight in the series including 0-3 SU and ATS on this floor. No reason to get in front of the Blake Griffins here.

Now it’s down to business for the Pats and Giants

Media Day is over and everybody and both teams pretty much said the right thing. No new bulletin board material to report as the Pats and Giants get down to business for Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants practice in Indy for the first time today. Gronk is out of his walking boot. Peyton Manning has no intentions of retiring. London could be in the running for a future Super Bowl and all the personal feel good individual stories. Four days and counting …

In other NFL related news. Assistants are on the move. Former Colts HC Jim Caldwell is now the QB coach for the Ravens. Joe Danna has left the Dolphins for the Falcons as the defensive backs coach. Texan QB coach Greg Knapp has moved on to the Raiders as the offensive coordinator. Raider HC Dennis Allen says he will instill discipline. The Black and Silver perennially lead the league in penalties. This year the Raiders took that to a new level getting flagged a league record 163 times for a whopping 1358 yards.

Today is national signing day as the best high school players in the country decide where they will go to school. Sportsbetting3 will have a recap of major signings and analysis of the top recruiting classes Thursday and Friday.

Sidney Crosby apparently has a soft tissue injury to the neck area that mimicks concussion type symptoms. Doctors have found no fractures to the vertebrae. This is the statement from the Penguins:

Dr. Alexander Vaccaro is a spinal trauma expert at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and co-director of the Spinal Cord Center at Thomas Jefferson University. He is past president of the American Spinal Injury Association.
Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, along with Penguins owner Mario Lemieux and CEO David Morehouse traveled Monday morning to Philadelphia, where Vaccaro reviewed a CAT Scan and MRI taken last week by Dr. Robert S. Bray in Los Angeles. Bray diagnosed a neck injury.Bray has treated Crosby with an injection to alleviate swelling in the C1-2 joint of the neck and will be overseeing his progression with therapists. Doctors say the symptoms of a soft-tissue neck injury are similar to concussion symptoms. Vaccaro, Bray and UPMC doctors all agree that Crosby is safe, the injury is treatable, and he will return to action when he is symptom-free.

Free plays went a very unlucky 2-2 and could have very easily been 4-0 with a couple of breaks with Michigan State and the Nuggets. Back at it today with four winners off the hard wood. For the best lines, customer service, deposit bonuses, and rocket fast payouts … check out or sponsors like Bovada, Top Bet, Eager Web, Bet Online, Legends, DSI, Bookmaker, and EZ Street. Good luck tonight.

(CBB) Indiana at Michigan under 137.5

Not at all interested on the side here. The Hoosiers are 1-4 on the Big Ten road with three losses by seven points or more. The home team has won five straight in the series but the dog is 8-1 in the Wolverines nine conference games. Michigan’s last three home wins are by 1-2 points. These two met in Bloomington on January 5th, a Hoosier 73-71 win, Indiana shooting a lights out 55% from the field. Can’t imagine that happening here as Michigan does its best work at home in games that end in the 60s. Thinking the first to 60 wins here and the under gets a solid nod.

The more you bet, the more you get at EZ Street

(CBB) Georgetown -3 over UConn

Both teams are deperate for a win here. The Huskies have lost three straight by a combined eight points and have lost their last three visits to this building. The Hoyas are 0-4 as a Big East home fave and just 1-7 vs the points in their L8 games overall. Not willing to give up on the Hoyas yet as they are quality and are 10-1 at home. GTown has had the misfortune of running into hot teams in bad sports (Cinn, WV, Pitt). Hoyas in double-revenge off sweep (Storrs, and Big East tourney) and catch Huskies on downer. Georgetown 68-60.

Claim your $100 Free Bet at Bovada

(CBB) VCU -14 over William and Mary

Shaka Smart has the Rams gearing up for another big run in March. VCU has won seven straight and 15 of 17 and just terrorizing the Colonial. VCU is just 7-4 vs the points in conference laying rediculous numbers much like this one. That said, Bill and Mary is brutal at 4-19 including a 5-11 badge as a dog, and a 1-4 ATS mark in five lined home games. The Tribe almost escaped with an away win in the first meeting but closer examination reveals a terrible Ram shooting night, 34% from the floor that included 2-22 from downtown. W&M has lost their L3 by 24-18-11 and figure to get taken behind the woodshed here. Lay it.

It’s always Game on when you play at Top Bet

(CBB) Wyoming -3 over TCU

The Cowboys are very quietly 17-4 and rebounded from loss in their showdown with San Diego State with a nice DD win at tough venue in Boise State. The Horned Frogs looked to be much improved with early non-conference wins against Virginia, Houston, Evansville, and Texas Tech but have sputtered to a 50-50 season. TCU is just 1-5 against-the-spread on their home floor this year and a horrific 7-25 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum over the last three years. Strangely enough, Wyoming is unbeaten on the Mountain West road, 10-2 as a fave, and need to look sharp with UNLV on deck. Wyoming by 10.

In the world of sports on Monday …

The Giants and the Patriots are both in Indianapolis as we’re just six days away from Super Bowl XLVI. The Pats had their first practice and were without Rob Gronkowski who is still recovering from a high ankle sprain. New England practiced in full pads as Bill Belichick sent a message to everyone that this is a business trip.

The Giants have also arrived in town but will not practice until Wednesday. Big Blue has concentrated on staying focused and relying on their experience rather than their prior success. There are 19 G-Men left from the 2007 World Championship team and Coughlin has stressed the importance of the veterans keeping the younger players in check in the crazy Super Bowl week enviornemnt.

With the Lakers struggling and the Magic in complete freefall, can a Dwight Howard trade be far behind. Los Angeles is just 2-7 away from the Staples Center after their win at the T-Wolves. The Magic lost their fourth in a row 78-69 to the 76ers. The Magic just can’t score. Chicago, MIami, and Milwaukee all won at home. The Spurs and Wolves were surprise winners on the road. The Clippers spanked the Thunder highlighted by this dunk by Blake Griffin.

In college hoop action, Missouri edged Texas 66-65 in the night’s feature action. Kentucky is still #1 in the AP poll. Undefeated Murray State has cracked the AP Top but has drawn St Mary’s in their bracket buster game, the last real challenge for the Racers before March Madness. Tennessee Tech’s Kevin Murphy scored 50 in the Golden Eagles 98-80 win over SIU Edwardsville.

Clemson +8 over Virginia

The home team has won the last nine games in the series but grabbing the points here with the dog just makes too much sense. The Tigers last four losses here were by a combined 12 points and their last four four road losses were all by seven points or less. The road team is 6-0 ATS in Virginia’s six ACC games, the Cavs 0-3 at home. Bot teams are somewhat challended on offense avgg just 64/65 points respectively and bth are rock solid on defense allowing 59/51 points respectively. In a game where the first one to 60 wins, it’s alway better getting big points.
Every night it’s Game On at Top Bet !!!

Michigan State -3 over Illinois

Despite laying points on the road and the visitor in the series being 2-8, like Sparty a lot in this matchup. Illinois has lost three straight close games since upsetting Ohio State. Illinois’ only home loss was to a 67-63 decision to Wisconsin but in SP3′s opinion, the Spartans are better than the Badgers and on a current 17-2 run. The two losses did come in the Izzo’s last two roadies but this is a team that beat Wisconsin and Indiana on the road and figure to get healthy here. Mich State 12-4 vs the points vs winning records while the Illini are just 2-14 as a home dog of less than three. Michigan State by double-digits.

Atlanta -5 over Toronto

Both teams are playing their 3rd game in five nights so the fatigue factore is a wash. The Hawks have won eight of ten overall, the Raptors are 3-1 SU and ATS in their L4 but have lost four of five at home. The ATL is 3-1 SU and ATS in the L4 in the series and the Hawks are a dominating 19-7 ATS north of the border since the Barney’s came into the league. Love using the Hawks on the road laying small points. Atlanta is 11-1 straight up this year over losing records and 68-24 vs sub .500s the last three years. Used Hawks Sunday (-2) at New Orleans and came away with 94-72 win. Right back.

Denver +1 over Memphis

Last night we used the 2-8 on the road Spurs +6 over the Grizz and won straight up. Coming right back with Denver tonight in Memphis, again, to win straight up. The Nuggets have been nothing short of amazing as George Karl has molded the pieces from the Carmelo deal into a pretty good unit. Let’s remember that 40% of the projected Denver starters are still playing in China. The Nuggets have won six of seven and 8-2 ATS on the road. The Grizz have lost four straight avgg 83 ppg and, 1-5 after scoring less than 85, and 2-7 vs winning records. Take Denver.
