Boise dumps Air Force after slow start

Boise State got off to slow start before closing out Air Force with a 21-3 second half in Friday night’s college football feature. The Falcons played the Broncos tough for the first 30 minutes trailing just 21-17 at the half. Boise fell to 2-11 in their L13 as a home favorite in failing to cover the 24 point impost having two deep second half drives stopped by turnovers. Over players also cashed their tickets.

Texas quarterback David Ash has been ruled out of the Longhorns showdown vs. No.25 Ole Miss. Ash sustained head and shoulder injuries in the Horns blowout loss to BYU and has been unable to practice this week.

MLB News and Notes

Chris Davis hit his major league leading 50th home run to help Baltimore beat Toronto 5-3. The Orioles overcame a 3-0 deficit in snapping a three-game losing streak and remaining in the American League wild card race.

The Oakland A’s extended their lead over Texas with a 9-8 win over the Rangers Friday night. Oakland led 9-2 and then had to survive a six-run eight inning from the homestanding Rangers. It was the fourth straight loss for Texas as Oakland extended it’s lead in the AL West to four games.

Around the horn in the NFL

Colt’s running back Vick Ballard was put on IR Friday after tearing his ACL in a freak sideline accident. Ballard was on the sideline of a non-contact drill when he planted his foot and his knee gave out. Bllard rushed for 71 yards on 13 carries vs. the Raiders in Week I and played in 71% of Indy’s offensive snaps.

Green Bay Packer linebacker Clay Mathews was fine $15,000 for his questionable sideline hit on 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick last Sunday.

Arizona Cardinal wide out Larry Fitzgerald tweaked a hamstring on Wednesday as is listed as questionable for Sunday’s home game vs. Detroit. Fitzgerald looked somewhat better in practice on Friday than he did on Thursday. Andre Roberts will get the start if Fitzgerald is unable to go.

Jeff Gordon added to The Chase

Part of further fallout of the race scandal at Richmond last Sunday, Jeff Gordon has been added as a 13th driver in The Chase, Nascar’s version of the playoffs. Gordon fell a point short after qualifying by a point last year but was put in after it was revealed that several drivers and teams manipulated the finish at Richmond to get their teammated qualified for The Chase. Money May and Canelo both make weight

The most highly awaited prize fight this decade takes place tonight at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather and Saulo “Canelo” Alvarez both easily made the 152 catch weight and both put undefeated records on the line. At this writing, Mayweather is a -280 favorite with Alvarez +220 on the take back. We should see a big infusion of Mexican money throughout the day driving the price down with sharps coming big right at fight time with big Mayweather money. If you plan on betting this fight, make your plans accordingly.
