Hoyas, Kansas State and Wisconsin are high seeds that fell
Georgetown, Kansas State, and Wisconsin were among the high seed that were upset in first round action on Friday. The second-seeded Hoyas were beaten 78-68 by the fifteenth seeded Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Upstart FGC led by two at the half and never trailed building their lead to as many as 16. LaSalle blew an 18-point halftime lead before getting two free-throws from Jerrell Wright with 10 seconds left to beat Kansas State. Marshall Henderson scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half as Ole Miss dispatched Wisconsin rather easily.
Kobe and Gasol are back but Lakers blow 18 point lead to the Wiz
Friday night at the Staples Center, the Lakers were able to start their All-Star lineup of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Metta World Peace and Pao Gasol for just the third time all season. It looked like it would pay immediate dividends as the Lakers went to the half with a 57-41 lead against the 24-43 Washington Wizards. Something is wrong in LA and someone forgot to tell the Wizards to just lay down as Washington goy back in the game with a 31-17 third quarter and going on to win 103-100. John Wall had 24 points and 16 assists for the Wiz. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 21 points, Dwight Howard added 20 points and had 15 boards.
Orioles refuse to budge on sheduling

Former Raven free safety has signed a three-year deal with the Houston Texans for a reported $15 million dollars. Reed said that he was contacted by the Texans on the first day of free agency and at that point it was just a question of getting the deal done.
Auburn tree-poisoner sentenced to three years
The crazed Alabama fan that poisoned the 100-year-old oak trees at Toomer’s Corner on the Auburn campus was sentenced to three years in prison. Harvey Updyke Jr. pleaded guilty on Friday to criminal damage of an agricultural facility and will serve at least six months in jail and spend five years on supervised probation for the Class C felony. He has been credited with 104 days already served.
MMA fighter fakes his own death and then robs a gun store
A Michigan heavyweight MMA fighter who had supposedly died in a car wreck in February, is in jail charged with armed robbery and assault with intent to murder. Chris Rowan, 25, had reportedly been killed driving to a fight and his promoters had been duped into sending the family $1000 for his funeral expenses. Dempsey goal in blizzard lifts US over Costa Rica
Note to the US soccer federation …. you may not want to schedule World Cup qualifying matches in Colorado during March in the future. Clint Dempsey scored a goal in the 16th minute to lead the US to a 1-0 WC qualifying win over Costa Rica in a driving snowstorm. Plows and shovels were used to clear the penalty areas, midfield circle and center stripe. The US players weraing their home whites were hard to see as the match progressed and the game was stopped in the 55th minute for the match commissioner to evaluate the the playing conditions. The game continues and the US came away with an all important home win.
