NBA News and Notes
The Memphis Grizzlies have dealt leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors in a three-team deal that also involves the Detroit Pistons. You can read all the fine print details of the deal here but in essence, the Grizzlies didn’t feel like they could sustain a payroll that featured three max salaries. By trading Gay, they get a veteran swingman and defensive stopper in Tayshaun Prince, two young and improving players in Austin Daye and Ed Davis while making their payroll more manageable.

What is Deer-Antler Spray ???
Deer-Antler spray and IGF-1 has been prominent in the news over the last 48 hours as several athletes have been linked to taking it. Strangely enough, IGF-1, the chief component of Deer-Antler spray is on the banned substance list of the NFL but the league is not presently testing for it. What is Deer-Antler spray ??? What is IGF-1 and what is it’s effect on the body ??? Here it is in a nutshell.
Dr. Spyros Mezitis, an endocrinologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, explained to CBSNews.com that IGF-1 is an insulin-like growth factor, a hormone that naturally occurs in the body and circulates in the blood. A person’s endocrine system contains a pituitary gland that produces a chemical called growth hormone that helps children grow into adults by making their bones stronger and helping their bodies mature. The brain’s growth hormone then stimulates the liver to produce IGF-1, which then binds to receptors in muscle cells, signalling them to multiply and grow.
This is a four-year-old video off Youtube that explains in layman’s terms exactly what Deer-Antler product does, its history and its effects on the body. In no way is this a Sportsbetting3 endorsement of this product or of this company. Always consult with a qualified health care professional about putting anything in or on your body for nutritional or medicinal purposes.
Verlander could pitch for USA at WBC
Jason Verlander will decide by February 20th on whether he will pitch for the USA at the World Baseball Classic. The big Detroit righty will make his decision based on he he feels after the early conditioning training he is doing in preparation for the 2013 season. The addition of Verlander would be a huge boost to the American rotation that now features that now includes R.A. Dickey, Derek Holland and Ryan Vogelsong.
Beckham set to join Paris St Germain
It looks like Becks will wind up at Paris St. Germain after all. Once Beckhan passes a physical on Thursday, he is scheduled to be introduced by the club. Beckham was rumored to be heading to the French capital once his six-year stint with the LA Galaxy was finished. Since being acquired by a Qatari investment firm in May of 2011, PSG has been the biggest spender in Europe stockpiling stars like Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Brazil’s Thiago Silva and Lucas, and Argentina’s Ezequiel Lavezzi. Those four were bought last summer for a total of $140 million last summer. PSG is currently tied for first in France’s Ligue 1 and has reached the knockout stage of the Champions League tournament.
