Heat come from 16 down to beat the Knicks
Miami needed to send a message to the New York Knicks and after a slow start, they finally got it done. Paced by Lebron James 29-11-7, Miami stormed back from a 59-45 halftime deficit to beat the Knicks 99-93 at Madison Square Garden. Carmelo Anthony had 32 in a losing effort for NYK including 17 in the first quarter where the rest of the Knick team went 1-11 from the field. New York had won the first two meetings this year by 20+ albeit in November.
Blackhawks beat Wings in shootout to extend point run
Patrick Kane scored the equalizer for Chicago with 2:02 left to play and then converted the only penalty shot by either team in the Blackhawks 2-1 shootout win at Detroit on Sunday. Corey Crawford stopped 32 shots and then stonewalled Henrik Zetterberg, Damien Brunner and Pavel Datsyuk in the penalties for the win. Chicago improved to 19-0-3 and is yet to be beaten in regulation.
Michigan edges Michigan State on Burke steal and dunk
Trey Burke stole a Michigan State pass at mid-court with 50 seconds left and dribbled in for an uncontested dunk for the winning points of No.4 Michigan’s 58-57 win over No.9 Michigan State. Burke had 21 points for the Wolverines who went 0-12 from behind the arc. Adreian Payne had 17 points and 12 boards for the Spartans who fell to 22-7.
Flacco contract details, $52 million guaranteed
Details of Joe Flacco’s new monster contract are becoming available and theSuper Bowl-winning quarterback will receive $52 million guaranteed as part of his six-year, $120.6 million deal. Flacco will make $61 million over the first three seasons of the deal, $51 million over the first two years. Flacco’s hit against the cap for this year will be a very team friendly $7 million rather than the $15 million plus that would have counted if no deal had been done and Flacco was franchise tagged.
Carl Edwards ends 70-race drought with win at Phoenix
They were back-flipping in Victory Lane on Sunday as Carl Edwards ended a personal 70-race winless drought with a win at the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Motor Speedway. Jimmie Johnson finished second, Denny Hamlin third with Brad Keselowski and Junior rounding out the top five. On deck is the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas.
Is Nolan Ryan being forced out at Texas ???
In an apparent power play in the Texas Ranger front office, reports have Nolan Ryan possibly leaving the organization by as early as the end of spring training. Ryan no longer has final say on baseball or business decisions and has seen his power erode quickly over the past couple of months. Ryan is still listed as CEO of the club but that appears to be in title only.
