Heat to 13, Flacco gets paid, Rory walks + Friday Recap: Saturday, March 2, 2013
- Updated: March 2, 2013
Heat cool of Grizz for 13th straight
The Miami Heat had won 12 straight. The Memphis Grizzlies had won eight straight. Something had to give Friday night when the two hooked up at American Airlines Arena. Miami won their franchise record 13th straight 98-91 but the Grizz pushed the Heat to the limit. After three quarters, Lebron James found himself in unfamiliar territory with just four points after 36 minutes. You knew that wouldn’t last. King James scored 14 points in the final stanza including a dagger three to seal the deal as Miami put Memphis away with a 31-25 final quarter. Lebron wound up with an 18-8-10 stat line while Marc Gasol led the Grizz with 24-9-4.
On a side note, Magic Johnson wants Lebron in the slam dunk contest so bad that he will put up $1 million for Lebron or the guy that beats him.
Louisville at Syracuse tops Saturday college hoops card
Saturday’s full slate of college basketball tips of at 12:00 PM EST with what figures to be the day’s feature matchup as Louisville travels to Syracuse. The Cardinals have won seven of eight overall, their last four games by 14+ points. Syracuse is 4-5 in their L9 after starting the year at 18-1. The Orangemen (+7) won at Louisville back on January 16th for their third straight win the series. The Cardinals have won two of their last three visits to the Dome. It should be a good one. Syracuse opened as a 1 1/2 point favorite with the high/low set at 130 1/2.
Flacco signs record $120.6 million dollar deal
At the beginning of this season, Joe Flacco rolled the dice by playing out his rookie contract rather than sign an extension. After leading the Ravens to a win in the Super Bowl, Flacco is getting paid ….. in a BIG BIG way. Reports have Flacco ready to sign a six-year 120.6 million dollar deal that will make him the highest paid player in the league. The Ravens can now concentrate on their other soon-to-be free agents including linebackers Dannell Ellerbe and Paul Kruger, and safety Ed Reed.
Blackhawks run record point streak to 21
The Chicago Blackhawks epic run to start the season continued on Friday night with a 4-3 overtime win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blackhawks have now registered at least one point in a league record 21 games (18-0-3) and are yet to beat in regulation. Chicago’s next game is Sunday in Detroit.
McIlroy walks off the course after nine holes of seven over
Rory McIlroy withdrew from the Honda Classic Friday, walking off after nines holes that he shot at seven-over. McIlroy blamed a bad wisdom tooth and told reporters that he was not in a good place mentally. With a $200 million dollar deal from Nike in the bank and beautiful top-five tennis playing girlfriend, you would think that things are going pretty good for the Irishman. We’ll see with the Masters a little more than a month away.
