Heat/Spurs in critical Game III tonight
The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs jump it up in tonight’s NBA Final critical Game III. The series is ties at one game a piece after the Spurs managed a split in South Beach. Critical ??? Since the NBA Finals went to the current 2-3-2 format, when the series has been tied at 1-1, the winner of Game III has done on to win the series 12 of the last 13 times. Tim Tebow signs with the Pats
Sources are reporting that Tim Tebow has signed a contract with the New England Patriots. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but Tebow has been signed as a quarterback and is expected to attend Tuesday’s Patriot mini-camp. Tebow will be third on the depth chart behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. The Pats released former Northwestern/Philadelphia Eagle Mike Kafka on Monday.
Ocho Cinco gets 30 days after slapping lawyer on the ass
A Florida judge was none to amused by the antics of former Bengal wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. After reaching a plea agreement requiring no jail time for a parole violation, Ochocinco broke up the court in laughter by patting his lawyer on the butt and mouthing, “good job”. A not very happy judge immediately threw out the plea deal and sentenced Ochocinco to 30 days. You can watch the courtroom proceeding by clicking here.
Hollins out as Grizz coach after 56 wins
Another 56+ win coach bites the dust when the Memphis Grizzlies parted ways with Lionel Hollins. The Grizz announced Monday that Hollins contract would not be renewed after leading the Grizz to a franchise record 56 wins and a spot in the Western Conference finals. Hollins joins George Karl and Vinnie Del Negro as coaches who were fired over the last 30 days after leading their teams to franchise bests. P.J. Carlisimo was also canned after taking over Brooklyn halfway through the season and leading the Nets to a 35-19 record.
Mo Cheeks gets Pistons job
Mo Cheeks has been named the new coach of the Detroit Pistons. Cheeks was a member of the great 1983 Philadelphia 76er championship team and has previously coached twice in the league with theTrail Blazers (2001-05) and 76ers (2005-08). Most recently, Cheeks has been an assistant to Scott Brooks at Oklahoma City.
Sergio seeks out Tiger at US Open
Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods had a brief exchange and shook hands on the driving range at Merion as both prepared for this week’s US Open. It was the first face-to-face encounter between the two since Garcia’s “fried chicken” remarks on May 21st at a European Tour dinner function. Dodger phenom Yasiel Puig had three more hits Monday but the Dodgers still lost to Arizona 5-4. Puig is now 16-32 with six multi-hit games since being promoted to the big club last Monday.
Adam Dunn went four-for-four with two homers and five RBIs in the WSox 10-6 win over the Blue Jays. Jose Bautista had two homers in a losing cause for the Jays. The game was delayed 70 minutes due to heavy fog.
