Giants blank Cards 9-0, face Tigers in 2012 World Series
It was over before it even started. The Giants nicked Cardinal ace Kyle Lohse for a run in the first, a run in the second, and then sealed the deal with five in the third to cruise to a 9-0 win over St Louis in the seventh and deciding game of the NLCS. The Giants came back from down 3-1 in the series to outscore the Red Birds 20-1 in the final three games. Matt Cain and four relievers stoop ed St Louis on seven hits and Marco Scutaro had three hits and was named the series MVP.

The 2012 World Series is set as the Detroit Tigers take on the San Francisco Giants. The National League will be the home team by virtue of winning the All-Star Game back in July and the series open with Game I at AT&T Park on Wednesday with the Tiger’s Justin Verlander a -145 favorite over Barry Zito. The Tigers are -155 to win the series primarily on the fact that it is conceivable that Verlander could get three starts. It should be a good one.
Bears defense shuts down Lions
Dog and under players were the beneficiaries of the Bears 13-7 win over the Lions on Monday Night Football. In a sloppily played game that featured lots of defense, the Lions outgained the Bears 340-296 but could not overcome four turnovers and 35 minutes time of possession by Chicago. Detroit fumbled six times losing three and Mathew Stafford did his part with a pick. The Bears dominated TOP with 171 yards rushing at 5.3 yards per. Trailing 13-0 throughout most of the game, the Lions came in through the back door with a 12-yard TD pass Stafford to Broyles with 30 seconds left.

McGee played in all 12 Sooner games last year starting three.

NBA looking to stop more than flopping
With the new flopping rule in place to prevent defensive players from falling down from a light breeze, the NBA will also go after shooters that kick their legs out to initiate contact. NBA refs have been told to enforce the “Reggie Miller” rule and call offensive fouls on offenders.

NHL Lockout Update
As of late Monday afternoon, there were no meetings planned between the league and the NHPLA. Though the two side are expected to meet sometime this week, there have been nothing but phone calls exchanged between the two parties since the side swapped new proposals last week. Earlier last week, commissioner Gary Bettman said a full 82-game season would be possible if an agreement is reached by Oct. 25, although that possibility appears unlikely with no substantive progress made toward brokering a new deal.
