It’s Jim vs John Harbaugh in Super Bowl XLVII
The 49ers come from 17-0 down to beat Atlanta 28-24 and advance to the Super Bowl
Ravens push New England around in the second half of 28-13 win
Down 13-7 after the first half and going three-and-out in their first possession of the second half, the Baltimore Ravens decided they were just not going to take it anymore. The Raven offense scored on it’s next three possessions and the Black Bird defense forced three second-half Tom Brady turnovers to get a 28-13 win over the heavily favored Patriots and punching their ticket to New Orleans where they will meet the San Francisco 49ers.
Super Bowl XLVII opening line
Most shops in Las Vegas and offshore opened Super Bowl XLVII betting with the San Francisco 49ers as 4.5/5 point favorites with the total set at 49. After heavy early action at the windows, the line looks to have settled at 49ers -4.5 with the total 48 1/2. Brisk two-way action is reported on both teams. Last year’s game between the New York Giants and the Patriots drew $93.9 million in wagers in Nevada, just under the record $94.5 million bet in 2006 when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-10. Those who follow the betting industry closely say hundreds of millions of dollars — possibly even billions — will be bet on the game by the time the offshore sports books and illegal bookmakers take in their share.
Lakers lose 5th straight roadie as Dwight Howard gets ejected
In other NBA news on Sunday …..
Chris “Birdman Andersen has signed a 10-day contract with the Miami Heat. This would seem like a good fit for more Miami who desperately need a high energy guy that can play defense and help on the glass. Anderesen last played for the Denver Nuggets in March of 2012.
The struggling Phoenix Suns have named Lindsey Hunter as their interim head coach for the rest of the season. The Suns and former head coach Alvin Gentry “mutually” agreed to part ways on Saturday. Phoenix is 13-28 at the mid-way point of the season, it’s worst in 25 years, and looking to play and develop the little young talent that it has.
Indiana sinks Northwestern in key Sunday college hoops
Two ranked teams played on Sunday’s abbreviated college basketball card and both teams won but failed to cover. No.2 Indiana should regain the top spot in the AP Poll after Saturday’s Louisville home loss to Syracuse with their 67-59 road win at Northwestern. The Hoosiers got 21 points and 13 boards from Cody Zeller. No. 14 North Carolina State regrouped from their mid-week loss to Maryland with a 66-62 home win over Clemson. Tj Warren had 21 markers for the Wolfpack.
Hockey pulls strong TV ratings for opening weekend
Hockey fans don’t seem to be holding a grudge towards the players or the league as opening weekend TV numbers were strong. Regional coverage of the Blackhawks/Kings and Penguin/Flyers drew 67% more views than the the average NHL regular season game last year. Lets not forget that Saturday was the Kings banner ceremony and that Flyers/Penguins was a matchup between arguably the two top teams in the East. Only time will tell if hockey is in fact welcomed back.
