Geno Smith/E.J. Manuel to start for Jets and Bills
Geno Smith has been named the Jets starting quarterback for their Sunday opener vs. Tampa Bay. Mark Sanchez’s shoulder injury must be more serious than reported as the Flyboys signed Brady Quinn on Monday and will carry four QBs (barring any moves) into Week I.
E.J. Manuel was named the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback for their opener vs. New England. Manuel is ahead of schedule in rehabbing a minor procedure on his knee after the second preseason game.
The Houston Texans have reportedly signed linebacker Brian Cushing toa 6-year $55.6 million dollar extension, $21 million of which is guaranteed. Cushing missed most of last year after sustaining a Week Five knee injury against the Jets.
Keyshawn Johnson will be one of 13 contestants in the upcoming 17th season of Dancing with the Stars. The other contestants are actress Valerie Harper; reality TV stars Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack Osbourne; Bill Nye, the “Science Guy”; actor Brant Daugherty; singer and actress Christina Milian; actress Elizabeth Berkley; actor Corbin Bleu; actress Amber Riley; country comic Bill Engvall; and actress Leah Remini.

John Lester outdueled the Tiger’s Max Scherzer 2-1 on Tuesday denying the big Motown righty his 20th win. Will Middlebrooks supplied all the BoSox offense with a two run single in the fifth.
Mariano Rivera announced that this would be his final season a long time ago but manager Joe Girardi is doing his best to get him to return in 2014. Rivera rocks a 2.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 5.11 K/BB ratio in 51 innings of work to go along with 40 saves. Rivera turns 44 in November.
Clemson jumps to No.4 in polls
By virtue of their 38-35 victory over Georgia, Clemson has jumped from N0.8 to No.4 in the new AP poll. In other movement in the top five. Ohio State fell from No.2 to No.3 after a lack-lustre win over Buffalo. Oregonn jumped from No.3 to No.2 after spanking Nichols State 66-3.
