June Sports Betting Preview: Basketball, Hockey, and Horse Racing
As May comes to a close, Sportsbetting3.com is looking ahead to June, when some exciting sporting events will take place. There’s plenty to bet on: the NBA finals, NHL play-offs, and Belmont Stakes are all big draws for sports bettors looking for a little extra cash for the summer. Of course, there’s also Baseball, which rolls along in regular season play towards the July all star break.
First up: the NBA basketball championship. As this article is being written, the Lakers lead the Nuggets 3-2 in their series. The next, and possibly final game for the Nuggets, is this Friday, May 29th. Many feel the Lakers will take the Western conference championship, unless Nuggets Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony can step up their game.
The Eastern conference has been more decisive: The Magic lead the Cavaliers 3-1. Game 5 tips offs today, May 28th. It could be curtains for the Cavaliers, who have struggled in their last few outings to play coherent team basketball. Not even LeBron James’ half court jump shots can fight off the tricks and illusions of The Magic.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals begins May 30th, featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings. The Penguins are coming off a solid conference win, in which they were the heavy favorite. Meanwhile, the Red Wings deserve Kudos for their efforts as well, and are taking a couple days to rest and recuperate before the puck is dropped this Saturday. Stanley Cup betting will continue into early June, just long enough to keep the ice from melting 
.
Finally, we couldn’t leave you without mentioning the Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of the famed Triple Crown horse racing series. The Kentucky Derby stunned horse racing fans with the improbable win of Mine that Bird; and the Preakness gave us a more predictable outcome with filly Rachel Alexandra taking home the win. Both horses are contenders in the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Both Mine that Bird and Rachel Alexandra (if the officially enter the race) are the heavy favorites. Mine that Bird is the sentimental favorite, who has demonstrated that he’s no one hit wonder by missing Preakness honors by less than 1 length.
