Lakers claim 7-seed with OT win over Houston
With the Utah Jazz having already lost at Memphis earlier in the night, the Lakers were already in the playoffs. After beating the Houston Rockets 99-95 in OT, the Lakers clinched the seven-seed in the West and a date with the San Antonio Spurs. Houston, which inexplicably was beat at Phoenix in Tuesday, fell to the eighth-seed and will face Oklahoma City. Also in the West, Denver locked up the three-spot with a 118-98 blowout of Phoenix. The Clippers assured themselves home court in their 4-5 matchup with a 112-108 win over Sacramento.
In the East, Chicago edged Washington 95-92 at the United Center and capture the fifth seed ahead of the Atlanta Hawks.
Carmelo Anthony sat out the Knicks 98-92 win over the Hawks but still won the scoring title. Melo finished with 28.7 points per game to end Kevin Durant’s three-year run as scoring champion. Durant also sat out Wednesday and stayed at 28.1 per game, making Anthony the first Knicks player since newly elected Hall of Famer Bernard King in 1984-85 to lead the league.
Steph Currey knocked down a three-pointer midway through the second quarter of Golden State’s 99-88 win over Portland to break to the record for three-pointers in a single season by an NBA player. Currey’s 270th trey of the year eclipsed the previous mark of 269 set by Ray Allen in the 2005-2006 season. Currey hit two more bombs later in the game to set the bar at 272.

Hardaway Jr declares for NBA draft
Tim Hardaway Jr is the latest college basketball underclassman who will take his services to the NBA. Hardaway was the elder statesman on this year’s NCAA runner-up Michigan Wolverine team averaging 14.5 ppg as a junior. Michigan PG and national Player of the Year Trey Burke had already declared for the draft earlier in the week with fellow Wolverine teammates Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III still undeclared at this writing. Hardaway is of course a legacy with his father Tim Sr playing 14 years in the league with several teams, most notably Golden State.
