Louisville spanks Ohio 49-7 in opener
The highly touted Louisville Cardinals and stud quarterback Teddy Bridgewater showed that they’re for real by blowing out a pretty good Ohio Bobcat team in their season opener. Bridgewater was 23-38 for 355 yards and 5 TDs in the 49-7 rout. Bridgewater completed his first nine passes as Louisville roared out to a 28-0 halftime lead. Favorite and Under players (-21, 59 1/2) cashed their tickets.
Florida State and Pitt is tonight’s lone football offering
Just one game on today’s abbreviated Labor Day card as Florida State travels to Pitt to take on the Panthers. Florida State opened as a -10 point favorite but has been bet up to 11 1/2. The total opened at 49 and is down a half tick to 48 1/2. Both starting quarterbacks have been battling minor injuries but are listed as probable. There is a 30% chance of thunderstorms and temperature at game time is expected to be around 77. Watch and win on ESPN.
Gronk practices in full pads for the first time
New England Patriot TE Rob Gronkowski practiced in full pads for the first time this year indicating that he may be close to returning. Gronk took part in the running and stretching drills and was involved in some light contact. Reports have Gronkowski returning for the Pats Week III matchup with Tampa Bay. New England opens Sunday at Buffalo followed by a quick turnaround Thursday night home game with the Jets.
The LVH Super Contest is now at 600+ entries
The world’s most prestigious NHL handicapping contest, the LVH Super Contest, has already exceeded 600 entries and looks poised to shatter last year’s record 739 entries. Players pony up $1500 per entry and pick five NFL games of their choice each week off a card with lines set on Tuesday. The contest was won by a woman for the first time last year, taking home a $477,000 first prize. This year, the LVH will pay the top 30 places instead of 20. Check out details here.

The Colorado Rockies Todd Helton became the 96th player in mLB history to get to 2500 hits. Helton hit the milestone with a seventh-inning single in the Rockies 7-4 win over Cincinnati. For those who may not remember, the 40-year-old Helton was the starting quarterback at Tennessee before Peyton Manning.
Off season knee surgery is a definite possibility for Nats outfielder Bryce Harper. The 20-year-old phenom from Las Vegas missed a month earlier in the season with bursitis and has been unable to go full speed at times the past two weeks. Harper is hitting .277 with 19 homers in 97 games his year after being the National League Rookie of the Year last year.
Kyle wins at Atlanta, clinches spot in The Chase
Kyle Busch was an easy winner in Sunday’s Sprint Cup race in Atlanta secure a spot in The Chase, Nascar’s playoff, starting in two weeks in Chicago. It was Busch’s second with at Atlanta, his fourth win this season and the 28th of his career. Joey Logano was second with Martin Truex Jr. third. Busch struggled with handing problems through 200 laps before his crew got his car dialed in.
Sergio leads by two at the Deutsche Bank
Weather could be a factor in today’s final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship outside of Boston. Rain in the area has already caused an early delay and is in the forecast throughout the day. Sergio Garcia has the lead at 19-under, two shot better then Henrik Stenson. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are well back and not a factor.
Gareth Bale to Real for record 100+ Euro transfer
Real Madrid has finally pulled the trigger on the transfer of Tottenham striker Gareth Bale for a reported 100 million Euros or $132 million dollars. The transfer shatters the previous record of 80 million Euros when Real Madrid bought Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Bale will now join Ronaldo as the 1-2 punch at the Bernabeu.
