Denver spanks Baltimore behind Mannning record night
Peyton Manning set several NFL records with his 27-42 for 462 yards and 7 touchdown night in the Broncos 49-27 win over the Baltimore Ravens. No NFL quarterback had thrown for seven touchdowns since Joe Kapp in 1969. The 462 yards was the second best day of the future HOFer’s career.
The game turned on the final play of the first half when the Raven’s Dallas Clark dropped a certain TD pass forcing Baltimore to settle for a field goal and a 17-14 halftime lead. A fired up Bronco outfit came out in the second half and blocked a punt and it was all over but the shouting as Manning picked a helpless Raven secondary to pieces. Favorite (-7.5) and Over (49) players went to the cashier after the game.
John Harbaugh gets new four-year extension
Thursday night was a complete loss for Raven’s coach John Harbaugh. Earlier in the day, the Ravens tore up the last two years of his current $4 million per deal and gave him a brand new four-year $7 million per deal that keeps hom in Baltimore through 2016.
Wake Forest at Boston College Friday night preview
The ACC is spotlighted in tonight’s college football TV feature. Wake Forest travels to Chestnut Hill to face Boston College. Both teams won their respective openers. Wake Forest (-38) beat Presbyterian 31-7 while Boston College (-15) beat pesky Villanova. Wake has won the last two meetings but is just 7-15 in their L22 as a road dog. Boston College has ten defensive starters back but was down at half last week. BC is just 3-7 in their L10 as a home favorite. The homestanding Eagles are currently -3 point favorites with the high/low set at 38. Weather is clear with the temperature at game time expected near 62.
MLB News and Notes
The Boston Red Sox got one in the ninth off Mariano Rivera and one in the tenth to beat the New York Yankees 9-8 in 10 innings. The Yankees had come back from 7-2 down to take an 8-7 lead with a six-run 6th inning but could not close the deal.
San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has a fractured finger but may not be shut down for the season. Last year’s MVP has a small fracture of his right ring finger but will continue to play as long as he can tolerate the pain. Posey is hitting .309 with 14 home runs in 130 games this year.

The L.A. Times and TMZ are reporting that Lamar Odom has checked into rehab for treatment of drug and alcohol abuse. Odom was arrested for DUI last week. The former UNLV/Rhode Island star was suspended by the league twice in 2001 for marijuana use.
Odom, 33, averaged 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in 82 games for the Clippers last season. A free agent, he’s drawn interest from both the Lakers and Clippers this offseason. He was the sixth man of the year in 2011 while playing for the Lakers.
