Heat get 85 from the “Big Three” in 109-93 Game VI win
The Miami Heat are now 12-0 SU and ATS since January 10th following a straight up loss after their 109-93 Game VI win over the San Antonio Spurs. Miami got 33 from Lebron James, 32 from Dwayne Wade and 20/13 from Chris Bosh as the Heat took over in the second half. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with a quiet 20 while Tony Parker added 15 points and 9 assists in a losing effort. Game Five in Alamo City is Sunday at 8:00 PM EST. The game is currently a pick with the total set at 188.
Mickelson has first round clubhouse lead at rain soaked US Open
At this writing (9:00 AM EST on Friday), the first round of the rain soaked US Open is just being completed and it looks like Phil Mickelson’s early three-under 67 will hold up for the 18-hole lead. Mickelson was going on little sleep having attended his daughter’s eighth grade graduation in California and then flying back for a 7:11 AM EST tee time. Former world No.1 Luke Donald is a shot back.
MLB News and Notes
The St Louis Cardinals continue to roll. Thursday, Adam Wainrwright won his 10th game with seven innings of four-hit shutout ball in the Cards 2-1 win over the Mets. Pete Kozma had three hits and scored a run for the Red Birds. The Mets stud rookie pitcher Matt Harvey was tagged with the first loss of his MLB career.
The Oakland A’s finished off a three-game sweep of the Yankees with a 3-2 win over the Bombers in 18 innings. Nate Freiman got the winning broken bat single to lead the A’s who have now won 21 of their last 26.
Bruins/Hawks I gets big big ratings
While not many people stuck around for the end of the Blackhawk’s Game I 4-3 Stanley Cup Finals win over the Boston Bruins, a lot of people did watch. The NBC braoscast averaged 6.8 million views making it the most watch hockey game since 1997. The ratings were up 119% from last year’s Stanley Cup Finals game between the New Jersey Devils and the L.A. Kings. Playoff ratings are up 38% this year overall from last year.
Doc Rivers to the Clippers ???
The buzz around the NBA other than the Finals is that the Clippers and Doc Rivers have expressed “a mutual interest”. ESPN has reported that Rivers is “intrigued by the thought of coaching the Clippers if he were to part ways with the Celtics. The Clippers have also expressed an interest in Rivers but are yet to ask Boston for permission to talk. Rivers has three years and $21 million left on his current Celtics deal.
Bills WR Steve Johnson has lower lumbar fracture
A back injury sustained in an off-season workout has turned out to be more serious than originally believed for Bills wideout Steve Johnson. A MRI revealed a minor fracture of Johnson’s L5 (lower lumbar) vertebrae. The injury is not thought to be serious and should respond to treatment. Johnson participated in last week’s OTAs by taking a cortisone shot.
Poker Pro kicked out of the WSOP
Poker professional and 2011 WSOP bracelet winner David Diaz has been banned from all Harrah’s properties and has thurs been effectively kicked out of the World Series of Poker. While Harrah’s has not released details, Diaz has said on twitter that it was for “drunken behavior” at a dinner break of one of the recent events. Diaz has also apologized.
One of the feel good stories of the 2011 WSOP, Diaz (a childhood cancer survivor) won a WSOP gold bracelet at the 2011 $1,500 Triple-Chance No-Limit Hold’em Championship, collecting $352,808 in cash. At least for the rest of 2013, Diaz will be watching from the sidelines. His buy-in for today’s $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em (Six Handed) was refunded.
