- Updated: March 14, 2013
Miami becomes fourth NBA team ever to 20 straight wins
The Miami Heat have become just the fourth team in NBA history to real of 20 straight wins. Miami used a 30-17 second quarter to get by the 76ers 98-94 in Philadelphia. It was the Heat’s 14th consecutive win over the 76ers. Lebron and Dwayne Wade led the way with 27-7-8 and 21-8-3 game lines respectively. Thaddeus Young had 24 points for Philadelphia.
Kobe out indefinitely with severe ankle sprain
Kobe Bryant will be out indefinitely with a severe ankle sprain suffered late in Wednesday’s 96-92 Laker loss at Atlanta. Bryant had 31 points (on 11-33 shooting) before twisting the ankle landing badly on a fall away jumper. X-rays were negative. On the court, Atlanta was led by Al Horford’s 14/14 double-double and 47 points from the bench. Metta World Peace had 20 on a losing effort as Los Angeles was able to knock down just four of their final 22 shots.
Wes Welker bolts Pats for the Broncos
The Denver Broncos have locked up former Patriot slot man Wes Welker with a two-year $12 million dollar deal. Welker moves on from Tom Brady to Peyton Manning who also utilizes his slot WRs to the maximum. Welker has averaged over 112 catches over the last six years, more than any wide out over a six-year period in NFL history. Welker led the Pats with 118 catches for 1,354 yards and six touchdowns last year.
More NFL Free Agency Moves from Day Two
The Pats, trying to mitigate the loss of Welker, signed another ex-Texas Tech slot guy in Danny Amendola. The ex-Ram will reportedly sign a five-year deal worth $31 million of which $10 million is guaranteed.
Reggie Bush is now a Detroit Lion. Detroit and Bush have agreed to terms on a four-year contact and a press conference is set for 1:45 PM EST today. On its face, this would appear to be a perfect fit for the Lions wide open spread offense as Bush is an elite pass-catching back and still dangerous one-on-one in space.

Duck’s Perry suspended four games for hit
The “Blow to the Head” police were out on Wednesday as the Duck’s Corey Perry was suspended four games for this hit on the Wild’s Jason Zucker. Now SB3 doesn’t comment on this stuff very often and is 110% behind protecting defenseless players, this clearly looks like a shot on a guy who didn’t keep his head up. What do you think ??? BTW, this suspension will cost Perry $115,000 in game checks.
From the NHL …..
“As the video shows, as Zucker reverses the puck to his defenseman, Perry continues on his path and hits the Minnesota winger nearly a full second after he released the puck, making significant contact with Zucker’s head.
“In spite of the fact that all players need to be aware of his surroundings, it’s perfectly reasonable that Zucker should no longer expect to be hit this long after possession. Furthermore, although all plays develop quickly, Perry has enough time to avoid this violent check or, at the very least, minimize it more significantly.
“While we accept Perry’s assertion that there was no malicious intent to hit Zucker’s head, the fact remains that he does make significant contact to the head of a player who is ineligible to be checked.”
Spring training crowds down 14% from last year
Spring training attendance is down 14% from a year ago according STATS. There are several factors attributed to the lack for fannies in the stands.
1- Spring training started a week early so that players could prepare for the World Baseball Championship
2- Unusual cold and rainy weather throughout the grapefruit ad cactus leagues.
3- Some teams charging as much as $50 a game to see guys with numbers 73, 79 and 94 on their backs.
