Derek Jeter out till after break with quad strain
An MRI on Derek Jeter’s “tight” quad revealed a Grade I strain and the captain will be out until after the All-Star game. Jeter missed the Yankees first 91 games after surgery to his left ankle. The future first ballot HOFer was pressed into action in the middle of his rehab stint and went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in his return to the lineup Thursday.
Mariano Rivera became the first pitcher in MLB history to record 30 saves in 15 different seasons. Rivera recorded his 638th save in the Bombers 2-0 win over the Twins on Friday. Trevor Hoffman had 30 saves in 14 different season primarily with the San Diego Padres.
Chris Davis hit his MLB high 35th homer as the Orioles spanked Toronto 8-5 Friday night. Only Barry Bonds (39 in 2001), Mark McGwire (37 in 1998) and Reggie Jackson (37 in 1969) hit more homers before the All-Star break.
Monta Ellis to Dallas, World Peace says no to NBA
The Dallas Mavericks and shooting guard Monta Ellis have agreed on a three-year deal worth a minimum of $25 million and could get to as much as $30 million depending on the Mavericks cap space.
Recently released Laker power forward Metta World Peace has no interest in returning to the NBA. In tweets, MWP said that he would like to play basketball in China or try to play in the Arena Football League. World Peace recently visited China and has reached out to former teammate Yao Ming about playing for his team in Shanghai.
Denver and tackle Clady close to $52+ million dollar deal
The Denver Broncos have upped their long-term contract offer to left tackle Ryan Clady. Right now, the man guarding Peyton Manning’s blind spot is sitting on a five year deal worth $52.5 million, half of which is guaranteed. The deal must be completed by Monday or Clady will have to play for a one-year franchise tag deal worth $9.828 million.
Keselowski wins pole at New Hampshire
Brad Keselowski set the track record at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Friday with a lap of 135.922 mph to take the pole for Sunday’s race at Loudon. Chase leader Jimmie Johnson qualified second and would have left from the outside of the front row but the No.48 failed inspection and will start last. Kurt Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Carl Edwards round out the first three rows. Sportsbetting3 will have current odds and driver matchups for the race on the Sunday report.
