MLB News and Notes

Ricky Nolasco is obviously enjoying a change in scenery. After spending his entire career in Miami, Nolasco was money in first start with the Dodgers throwing seven innings of four-hit ball in the Bums 6-1 win over the Diamondbacks. Nolasco was acquired by Los Angeles last week.

Adam Wainrwright picked up his 12th win and Matt Holiday went yard in the Cardinals 9-5 win over the Astros. Wainwright pitched seven shutout innings and is now the N.L. co-leader in wins.

The Biogenesis PED allegations are starting to heat up and MLB will reportedly meet with A-Rod on Friday. Reports have Ryan Braun refusing to answer questions from MLB investigators about his alleged involvement with a Miami PED clinic. As many as 20 player suspensions could be handed down after the All-Star break.

NBA Free Agency Updates

Today is the first day that free agents can put pen to paper and make the deals that have been bandied about the last 10 days official. Here are some of the updates.

Chris Paul officially signed his five-year $107 million dollar deal. CP3 has an opt-out after year four.

Chris “Birdman” Andersen has re-upped with the Heat for a year at $1.7 million. Andersen, a key component off the bench in the Heat’s championship run, has a player option for a second year.

Lions lock up Stafford with $53 million in new money

The Detroit Lions have extended gunslinger QB Mathew Stafford with a three-year extension worth $53 million, $41 million of which is guaranteed. Stafford has one year left on his current deal and the extension will keep him in Honolulu Blue through 2017. The ex-Georgia Bulldog will also receive a $27.5 million dollar signing bonus. Not bad for a guy who is 1-23 as a starter vs teams with records of .500 or better.

Chelios, Shanahan, and Niedermayer head new NHL HOF class

The NHL has announced it’s Hall of Fame Class for 2013 and it includes Chris Chelios, Brendan Shanahan and Scott Niedermayer. Also inducted named were women’s player Geraldine Heaney and former coach the late Fred Shero.

Court documents say Hernandez admitted shooting Odin Lloyd

According to court documents filed in Florida yesterday, Aaron Hernandez reportedly told associate Ernest Wallace that he shot Odin Lloyd. Hernandez is charged with first degree murder and being held without bail charged with the June 17th killing of Lloyd. The documents were released by authorities as part of an effort to get a warrant to search Wallace’s Miramar, Florida house. You can read get the complete details on this story by clicking here.
