Nets edge shorthanded Bulls, Warriors win first series since 2007

The Nets will go back to Brooklyn tied 3-3 in their series with Chicago after Thursday’s 95-92 win over the Bulls at the United Center. Chicago, already decimated with injuries, also battled a team wide flu. The Warriors used a big third-quarter to eliminate the Denver nuggets four games to two. Golden State led by 18 with nine minutes late and needed to withstand a furious Denver rally as the Warriors went five minutes without scoring. Nugget coach George Karl has no been in 14 playoffs and has gotten out of the first round just twice.

Four Game Six’s highlight tonight’s NBA card

Tonight’s Friday night NBA playoff card features four game sixes with the Celtics, Hawks, Rockets and Clippers looking to stave off elimination. At 7:05 PM EST, the Knicks are -2 (181.5) over Boston at TD Arena and Atlanta is -2 (187.5) over Indiana at the Philips Center. At 9:35 PM EST, the Houston Rockets are -1.5 (206) over Oklahoma City and the Memphis Grizzlies are -6 (180.5) over the Clippers.

MLB News and Notes

Jake Westbrook won his 100th game as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 6-5. Westbrook threw six innings of one-run ball and leads the MLB with a 1.10 ERA.

The Nat’s Dan Haren won his second straight start shutting down the Atlanta Braves 3-1. Haren was sharp allowing just one-run over eight innings. Denard Spann had three hits including a two-run double to supply the offense for the winners.

Ryan Dempster and four relievers stopped the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 as the Boston Red Sox improved to a MLB best 20-8. Dempster was born in British Columbia and is now 6-0 in ten lifetime starts in Canada.

Red Wings blow three goal led but win in OT

Gustav Nyquist scored a power-play goal at 1:21 of overtime, giving Detroit a 5-4 victory over Anaheim and even the series at 1-1. The Red Wings almost blew a 4-1 lead as the Ducks scored three goals in the final 13 minutes. Three of Detroit’s goals game on the power play.

Sidney Crosby WILL play in tonight’s Penguin Game II vs the Islanders.

Adrian Peterson sets season bar at 2500 yards

Minnesota Viking running back Adrian Peterson, the reigning NFL MVP, has set his bar for rushing yards this year at 2500. To get there, Peterson would have to average 156.25 yards over 16 games. Last year, he averaged 131 yards per game topping 156 yards five times. Peterson came within 9 yards of breaking Eric Dickerson’s mark last season, finishing with 2,097 yards, the second-highest mark of all time. The amazing season came with Peterson less than a year removed from reconstructive knee surgery.

Denny Hamlin cleared to race, will start Sunday

Denny Hamlin has been medically cleared to drive and will start on Sunday at Talladega. Hamlin had originally hoped to drive last week at his track at Richmond but a scan of a compression fracture in his lower black did not show sufficient bone growth. Hamlin was hurt at Fontana after hitting a wall almost head on.
