Bountygate player suspensions vacated

In a stunning turn of events, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue has vacated the suspensions of the four New Orleans Saints bountygate players. Tagliabue decided that while Goodell’s findings were factually accurate, the “entire case” was “contaminated” by the Saints organization. You can read the entire decision here in a PDF format compliments of CBS sports.

Knicks beat Nets 100-97 behind Melo’s 45

Carmelo Anthony scored a season high 45 points and Jason Kidd added 18 including the game winning three as the Knicks beat the Nets 100-97 at the Barclays Center. Andre Blatche led the Nets with 23 points subbing for Brook Lopez who missed his sixth straight game with a sprained foot. Now a heated rivalry in New York, the series is tied 1-1 since the Nets came over from Brooklyn. The Nets beat the Knicks in overtime on November 25th in an added game after the season opener was cancelled by Superstorm Sandy.

You can tell from this clip that is was a slow night for any type of sports highlights. Here, Amir Johnson of the Toronto Raptors gets ejected and subsequently suspended to getting Tee’d up, ejected, and subsequently suspended for a game without pay by the league.

Shin-Soo Choo dealt to the Reds in three-team nine-player deal

Kevin Youklis and the New York Yankees have agreed to a one-year $12 million dollar deal. The deal is contingent on Youklis passing a physical. Youkilis, 33, is coming off a season in which he batted .235/.336/.409 with 19 homers for the Red Sox and White Sox. His numbers improved somewhat after getting out of Boston. Youklis will play third base for the Bombers while Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery.

The Yankees and Ichiro are also close to finalizing a one and possibly two year deal. Ichiro hit .322 for the Yankees after coming over from Seattle and was their lone bright spot with the bat in the playoffs. Ichiro can play all three outfield positions well and with 2606 career MLB hits, is closing in on becoming the first Japanese player to reach 300 knocks. The Phillies are also said to be interested but Ichiro has made it clear that he wants to remain in New York.
