NFL News and Notes
It’s now a four game season as the NFL kicks off Week 14 with the Broncos/Raiders on Thursday night. The traveling Broncos opened as 10.5 point favorites and are now down to 10. The total opened 51 and has been bet down to 48. Not much you can do with this game. The Broncos have won the last seven series meetings going 5-2 vs the points. Over those seven games they scored 30+ points six times with road wins of 11-8-22-8 points. The Raiders have failed to cover five straight allowing 37.8 ppg. Denver waxed the Raiders 37-6 at Mile High back in Week Four but keep this in mind ….. if you bet the last 21 NFL home dogs catching more than eight points your record against the spread would be ….. (drum roll please) ….. 20-1. The last time was two weeks ago and involved Denver’s 17-9 (-10.5) winning non-cover against the Chiefs. Denver has clinched the AFC West and might just want to get out of Dodge with a win. The Raiders might just suck it up and play hard for HC Dennis Allen who lost his father on Tuesday. Tough call.
Jovan Belcher’s mother makes frantic 911 call
This tragic story just gets worse and worse as things come out. This is Jovan Belcher’s mother calling 911 for an ambulance. If you’ve somehow missed this story, Kansas City Chief linebacker Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend and then drove to the Chief’s training facility and turned the gun on himself.
Barry Alvarez will coach Badgers in the Rose Bowl
Wisconsin will announce today that former head coach and current athletic director Barry Alvarez will coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl. Brett Bielema shocked the college football world by taking the Arkansas job on Tuesday leaving Wisky without a coach for their showdown with Stanford on New Year’s Day. Alvarez last coached in 2005, ending a 15-year tenure as the most successful coach in Wisconsin football history by a wide margin. He selected Badgers defensive coordinator Bielema as his successor and moved to the athletic director’s chair, where he has remained since.
Kobe the 5th to 30,000 points, Lakers cruise past Hornets
Wednesday in the NBA, Kobe Bryant scored 29 points in the Lakers 103-89 win over New Orleans and became the fifth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 points. Bryant joins some pretty elite company in the 30K club ….. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. Bryant need just 13 points heading into the game and had 17 by the half in the easy double-digit win. Favorites bounced back with a 7-4 Wednesday night after going 3-9 on Monday and Tuesday. The over was 7-4 and the home teams also went 7-4. “The Association” resumes tonight with a Knicks/Heat and Mavs/Suns TNT double header.
Gators take a bite out of the Sems in battle Florida
In Wednesday’s college hoops, Florida crushed Florida State 72-49 for Sunshine State bragging rights. Michael Snear led FSU with 10 as the Seminoles manages just 14-46 from the field for 31%.

Messi, who came on as a sub in the 58th minute, suffered a deep bone bruise after a collision with the Benefica goaltender with six minutes left in regular time. Messi, 25, is trying to equal a 40-year-old scoring record held by Gerd Muller and is one goal shy.
