Around the horn in the NFLX

The road dogs continued to bark in NFL preseson action going 4-2 of Friday and are now 6-2 for the week. There have been significantly more points scored this week as well with the over (depending on when you played and the line) 5-0-3. Tonight in NFLX action, the Giants and Jets renew their annual rivalry at the Meadowlands. The Jets are one-point favorites and the total has not moved from it’s opening 36 and a hook. The Chiefs travel up the road to St Louis to visit the Rams. Kansas City is a one-pont road favorite with the 36.5 total up a point. Dwayne Bowe is in camp but will not play for the Chiefs. The Bears are one-point favorites over the Redskins at Soldier Field. The high/low is 37 and will be played under perfect conditions in the Windy City. Houston entertains San Francisco in what could turn out to be a Super Bowl preview. The Texans are giving up a FG with the total set on 37. Thunderstorms are in the forecast which would mean the Reliant Stadium roof will be closed. The Broncos are -1 in their home debut against Seattle, the total 38. Marshawn Lynch is questionable but T.O. will make his Seahawk debut and reportedly see plenty of action.
The night’s finale pits the Cowboys and the Chargers from the old Murph. The Bolts lay three to the Pokes with the over/under 37. You can watch and win this game on CBS.

The Yankees bat the Red Sox 6-4 in the first game of their three game set at the Stadium thanks to five solo home runs. Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin, and Nick Swisher twice …. all went yard for the Bombers. Phil Hughes picked up his 12th win and Rafael Soriano recorded his 30th save as New York extended it’s lead in the A.L. East to six games over Tampa Bay.

Thunder and Ibaka agree to a four-year extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder and C/PF Serge Ibaka have agreed to a four-year $48 million dollar extension. With Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook already locked up with max deals, signing Ibaka leaves just James Harden as the last player of the Western Conference champion’s core nucleus without a deal.
Thunder owner Clay Bennett can extend Harden at the max, or re-sign him for the same in free agency and carry the burden of the luxury tax implications. Either way, not a bad position to be in if you are OKC.

Walker leads Wyndham by a stroke over Webb Simpson

Jimmy Walker shot an eight-under 62 Friday to take a one shot lead over defending champion Webb Simpson at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. Walker, who has no tour wins in 158 starts, was perfect on the day and leads the tournament at 12-under par. Friday’s leader Carl Pettersson is joined by Tim Clark, Sergio Garcia, and Harris English at 10-under, two shots off the lead. Seventy-seven players survived the one-under cut and will play through the weekend.

Martin captures fourth pole of the year at Michigan

Mark Martin posted the top qualifying speed Friday of 199.706 mph on Michigan International Speedway’s still-new surface to win the pole for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400. It was Martin’s four pole of 2012 and the 55th of his remarkable career. Carl Edwards will start on the outside of the front row with Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Trevor Bayne, Martin Truex Jr, Marcos Ambrose, Landon Cassill, and Paul Menard rounding out the top ten. Jimmie Johnson is the prohibitive 5/2 favorite, with Tony Stewart the 7/1 second choice. Dale Earnhardt Jr 15/2, Denny Hamlin 17/2, and Brad Keselowski 9/1 round are the others drivers less than 10/1 at our friends at Bovada. Defending champion Kyle Busch could provide some value at 18/1.

Rhonda Rousey makes first title defense tonight in San Diego

The new “Face” of women’s MMA, ‘Rowdy” Rhonda Rousey, defends her Strikeforce Bantamweight title for the first time tonight when she faces 15-1 Sarah Kaufman at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. Nobody has lasted the first round against the undefeated 2004 Olympic Judo bronze medalist who checks in as a -700 favorite. Also on the cage is the the fighter that Rousey beat for her title, Meisha Tate. She’s a -500 favorite over Julie “Fireball” Kedzie and could merit a title rematch with an impressive win and if Rousey takes care of her business as expected. The lines are current as of this writing at Bovada.
