Cowboys and Redskins highlight NFL Week 17

It’s hard to believe the NFL regular season is over tonight. Sadly, Obama hasn’t said anything about the SB3 economic stimulus package that would expand the NFL regular season to 32 games. Oh well. Cowboys/Redskins for the NFC East highlights the Week 17 card and you can watch it in prime time tonight at 8:30 PM EST on NBC, preceded by arguably the best three minutes in football …. the Faith Hill segment. At this writing, the Skins are -3 and the total is 49. There are multiple playoff scenarios depending on the results of the early games but for Dallas it is win or home. It will be partly cloudy at Fed Ex Field with winds 5-10 from the NW. The game time temperature is expected to be around 33 with the wind chill taking it down to 26. There is no precipitation in the forecast.

SB3 will have a complete Week 17 recap and the early playoff matchups with lines on the Monday report. Don’t miss it.

Saturday Bowl Recap

Saturday college football Bowl action featured five games with the dogs scoring four straight up wins. In the opener, Rice dropped a 26-0 second half on the Air Force to win 33-14. The Owls outgained the Falcons 506-212. Under constant snow at Yankee Statdium, Syracuse spoiled Geno Smith’s last game at West Virginia with a 38-14 win. Smith was sacked twice by the Orange for safeties. Arizona State dominated Navy start of finish in a 62-28 win in San Francisco. The Sun Devils led 34-7 at the half. Texas outscored Oregon State 14-0 in the fourth quarter to win the Alamo Bowl 31-27. David Ash threw for 264 yards and two scores for the Longhorns. In the late game, Michigan State came back from a 13-0 halftime deficit and beat TCU 17-16. Dan Conroy kicked a 47-yard field goal with a minute left on the clock to seal the deal for Sparty.

Bobcats go down for the 18th straight time

Kiss of the Durantula. Kevin Durant makes a great block on the defensive end, grabs the rebound, drives the length of the court and posterizes the Mavs Chris Kamen on the other end. Enjoy.

North Carolina wins revenge game with UNLV

Last year, North Carolina went into Las Vegas and caught the Rebels on their best shooting night of the year as UNLV won 90-80. This year, UNC returned the favor handing the No.20 ranked Rebels a 79-73. The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 15-6 lead and were never really threatened although UNLV did cut the lead to one with about five minutes to play. Dexter Strickland led five Heels in double figures. Anthony Bennett and Anthony Marshall each had 15 for UNLV.

Velasquez beats JDS by unanimous decision to recapture UFC heavweight title

Cain Velasquez dominated Junior Dos Santos for 25 minutes to reclaim the UFC heavyweight championship at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. Velasquez won all aspects of the fight as the three judges scored the bout a lopsided 50-45, 50-44 and 50-43 for the challenger. After the fight it was revealed that Dos Santos broke his jaw early in round one. Velasquez backers were rewarded with a +170 payday at the window.

SB3 will have a complete recap of UFC 155 with all the post fight buzz and the bonuses on the Monday report.

Boston College’s Jerry York gets 925th college hockey win

Boston College coach Jerry York earned his 925th career victory Saturday to claim sole possession of the NCAA’s all-time hockey wins record. The 67-year-old York has coached 41 years at three schools. York won 125 games in seven years at Clarkson (1972-79), earned 342 victories in 15 years at Bowling Green (1979-94), and has won 458 games in 19 seasons behind the bench at his alma mater. Finally some positive news for what has been a bleak winter for hockey fans.
