Obama wins at 1-3 odds, the Redskins Rule falls to 17-2

Just in case you’ve been in a cave or a in a coma over the last 24 hours, US incumbent President Barack Obama has won his re-election bid as a near 1-3 favorite. CNN projected Obama’s win at 11:20 pm EST, 20 minutes later than his win in 2008.

Yesterday, SP3 reported on the Redskins Rule, a 17-1 election trend since 1940 that briefly stated that if the Redskins win their final home game before the election, the incumbent candidate/party would win re-election and visa versa. That trend fell to 17-2 with the Obama win as the Skins were beaten by Carolina 21-9 on Sunday indicating a Romney win ….. and so it goes.

Ball State 34 Toledo 27, Bowling Green at Ohio U tonight

When Ball State allows less than 35 points, they just don’t lose. The Cardinals improved to 6-0 when they play defense with a 34-27 road win over No.23 Toledo. Keith Wenning threw for 280 and three scores for the winners. David Fluellen rushed for 200 yards on 34 carries in a losing effort for the Rockets. Toledo fell to 5-1 in the Mid-American West and will have to beat 6-0 Northern Illinois next Wednesday to capture the division. Dog and under players went to the window.

More action out of the MAC tonight as the Bowling Green travels to Athens to face Ohio U in a key Mid-American East matchup. The Falcons and Bobcats are both 4-1 in conference and trail 5-0 Kent in the division. Ohio has won the last three in the series but Bowling Green has won four of the last five played on this field. The Falcons have won five straight going 4-1 against the points. Ohio is 8-1 straight up overall but have covered just one of their last six lined games. The series has been high scoring (70.3 ppg L3 years) but Bowling Green is the only team in the country that has every game go UNDER (8-0) the total. Ohio is a three-point favorite with the total 48 1/2. Weather is no issue with a game time temperature expected around 45.

At the United Center, the Bulls handed the Magic their first loss of the year 99-93. Russell Westbrook led six OKC Thunder in double-figures in a 108-88 blowout of Toronto. The NBA resumes tonight with a massive 13 game schedule.

Jerry Jones will ALWAYS be GM of the Dallas Cowboys

On his twice weekly radio show, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that he will never relinquish his GM duties and that he will never sell the team.

“We are not structured that way,” Jones told KRLD-FM on Tuesday morning. “We didn’t structure it that way with my ownership. There’s no way that I would be involved here and not be the final decision-maker on something as important as players, and that is a key area. That’s never been anybody’s misunderstanding. It’s been a debated thing, but it’s just not going to happen.”

MLB Hot Stove News

The Cincinnati Reds will be actively looking for a closer so that they can move fireballing southpaw Aroldis Chapman into the starting rotation. Chapman posted a 1.51 ERA, saving 38 games and striking out 122 in 71 2/3 innings. Chapman along with the Tiger’s Justin Verlander are the only two pitchers in the majors that routinely break 100 MPH on the gun.

The Baltimore Orioles has announced that they will look to negotiate a contract extension for Manager of the Year favorite Buck Showalter. The O’s skipper is under contract through 2013 but owner Peter Angelos and Dan Duquette have no intentions of letting Showalter enter his walk year as a lame duck manager.
