Pacers edge Heat to gain split
Last night, the Pacers didn’t give one away. Last night Lebron was the goat rather than the hero. For the first time in his career, Lebron committed two turnovers in the final minute of a playoff game as Indiana won Game II of the Eastern Conference finals 97-93. Roy Hibbert was a force in the paint with 29 points and 10 rebounds while George Paul added 22/2/6. George Hill had 18 points and iced things with four clutch free throws in the final 40 seconds. James carried the heat with 36 points but the two turnovers were the deciders.
Spurs/Grizz Game III tonight
The Memphis Grizzlies will have their backs against the wall as they try to climb out of a 2-0 hole to the San Antonio Spurs. The Grizz are currently -5 1/2 point home favorites with the total 177 1/2. Tony Parker is listed as probable for San Antonio. Memphis is 11-2 ATS in the playoffs this year.
Pens stomp Ottawa to move on in the East
James Neal recorded a hat trick as the Pittsburg Penguins dominated Ottawa start to finish in a 6-2 win over the Senators. All six Pittsburg goals were from in close directly in front of a beleaguered Craig Anderson who got no help in clearing out Penguins in the crease. Pittsburg advances to the Eastern Conference final where they will meet the winner of the Boston/New York series. The Bruins lead that one 3-1 and can eliminate the Rangers tonight at TD Arena.
MLB News and Notes
The Detroit Tigers took a lot of criticism for “overpaying” when they signed Anibal Sanchez to a huge free agent deal over the winter. It’s still to early to tell but two month into the season it looks like Detroit got a deal. Sanchez took a no-hitter into the ninth inning Friday before surrendering a one-out single to Joe Mauer, finally settling on a 6-0 complete game shutout. Sanchez struck out 17 in a game earlier in the year and has a 2.38 ERA over 64+ innings.
Curtis Granderson’s nightmare season continues. Just nine games after returning from a broken forearm he sustained in his first at bat of the exhibition season, will miss another four weeks with a broken pinkie ….. again being hit by a pitch. The three-time All-Star was hitting .250 in just 31 plate appearances.
League sends NFLPA a HGH testing proposal
The NFL has sent a proposal to the Players Association regarding testing for human growth hormone. The proposal which was submitted on April 24th, calls for immediate testing. Under the proposal, test results would be stored by the World Anti-Doping Agency until a baseline standard is established. The NFLPA wants a baseline standard established first. More on this as the story transpires.
