Rondo tears ACL and out for the year, Celts stop Heat in 2X OT
Rajon Rondo hurt his knee Friday in the Celtics epic double-overtime loss in Atlanta. At first, he thought that was just a slight hyper-extension but after experiencing pain during the Sunday pre-game a trip to a local hospital and a MRI revealed a torn ACL. He is out for the year. Rondo was averaging 13.7 points and 11.1 assists and was shooting 48 percent, leading the league in nearly every assist-related category. He was named as an All-Star starter and considered the most attractive trade bait for the sub-.500 Celtics. Courtney Lee is expected to replace Rondo at point guard.
….. and with that ….. Boston circled the wagons and beat the Miami Heat 100-98 in double overtime. Kevin Garnett had 24 points and 11 boards and Paul Pierce was money down the stretch finishing with a 17-13-10 triple double. Lebron had 34/16 and Chris Bosh chipped in with 16/16. King James, Bosh, DWade and Ray Allen accounted for 88 of Miami’s 98 total points.

The NFC dominates the Pro Bowl, quality of play much better
With the players playing for their proverbial Pro Bowl lives, the NFC put on a show in a 62-35 thrashing of the AFC in Sunday’s Pro Bowl. Despite there being almost 100 points scored, the quality of play was far superior to last year’s debacle which left the league wondering if it should continue the game.
Popularity poll shows Goodell not popular with the players
It was easy to figure that Roger Goodell wouldn’t be the most popular man in New Orleans this week. He’s not real popular with the players these days either. In a poll of over 300 players over a month ending January 12, the commish had a 39% approval rating. Hefty fines for questionable hits fallout from last year’s labor unrest and Bountygate were the key factors in the players displeasure.

Tiger Woods shot a three-under 69 on Sunday to take a six shot lead into Monday’s final round of the fog-delayed Farmer’s Open at Torrey Pines. With all of Saturday cancelled due to heavy fog, the tournament tried to get in as much as they could on Sunday and Tiger will need to to finish just 11 holes to pick up his seventh career victory at Torrey Pines.
