Knicks say bye bye to Jeremy Lin

It looks like Linsanity in New York is over after 35 games after the Knicks acquired PG Raymond Felton in a sign-and-trade with the Blazers. With Felton and future HOfer but long in the tooth Jason Kidd already in the fold, it’s pretty obvious that New York has no intentions of matching the Rockets three-year $25 million dollar off sheet. With Lin due $14.9 million in the third year of the Rocket deal, it appears Linsanity is out and Sanity has returned to the New York Knicks.

It looks like another NBA prima donna has ventured into the world of self mutilation. Cleveland’s Rookie-of-the-Year Kyrie Irving punched a wall that he thought was padded at the Las Vegas summer league and broke has hand which will require surgery. Irving will be out 6-8 weeks but should be ready for the start of the season. Irving had been “Wowing” people at the Team USA camp and the Vegas Summer League. We guess we won’t be seeing any new Uncle Drew commercials until the fall.

Welker contact situation critical

With deadline for signing “franchise” tagged players to long term deals looming at 4:00 PM EST on Monday, it is looking less and less likely that players like Wes Welker, Ray Rice, and Matt Forte will be getting multi-year deals. While Ray Rice is “optimistic” and Matt Forte reportedly “very close” to a deal with the Bears, New England and Wes Welker are reportedly not even talking. If Welker and the Pats are unable to come to terms, Welker will have to play under the tag and will be paid $9.5 million dollars.

The Cubs have won eight of their last nine hone games. The Yankees are 6-1 in their L7 overall. The A’s have won eight of nine. The DBacks are just 2-8 in their L10 road games. The Dodgers are 6-16 in their L22 overall. The Astros have lost 12 straight in enemy territory.

Danny Garcia knocks out Amir Khan to unify 140 title

For the short time that it lasted, the Danny Garcia/Amir Khan fight was one of the action fights of the year. Not quite Hearns/Haglers epic three rounder but close. Garcia knocked Khan out in the fourth round to remain undefeated and add the 140 pound super-lightweight belt to his trophy case. Khan seemed to be having his way with Garcia early on showing superior hand speed and accuracy but in the third round Garcia hit Khan with a wild left hook right behind the ear, dropping the Brit who never really regained his equilibrium. In the fourth, the two stood toe-to-toe exchanging haymakers, Garcia flooring Khan twice more before referee Kenny Bayliss stepped in for the save. Despite being undefeated, Garcia was a 4-1 underdog to the 2004 Olympic silver medalist.

Allmendinger suspension update

A.J. Allmendiger is generally considered one the sports good guy so when he tested positive for a “stimulant” and suspended three hours before last week’s race in Daytona, shockwaves were felt throughout the Nascar community. Allmendinger remains suspended while waiting for his “B” sample analysis which was given to Nascar on Wednesday. Sam Harnish Jr. gets the ride in the Penske racing No.22 in the interim.
