Defense leads Skins to 17-16 win over the Giants
In Week 13’s NFL Monday Night Football finale, the Washington Redskins used a bend but don’t break defense and a strong running game to edge the Giants 17-16 at Fed Ex Field. New York had the ball for 20+ minutes in the first half but came away with just 13 points on a touchdown and three field goal attempts as Washington made it to the break down just 13-10. Big Blue added another Lawrence Tynes field goal in the third quarter but RGIII capped a 12-play 86 yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon at 11:31 of the fourth for the winning points. Dog and Under players cashed their tickets.
In other news from around the league, the Eagles announced that Nick Fowles will be their starting quarterback for the rest of the year. The Raven’s five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs has a torn biceps tendon. Suggs is getting a second opinion on the injury to see if it is a long-term problem but could get medical clearance and not miss any games. Rex Ryan has not named a starting quarterback for the Jets game Sunday at Jacksonville but is said to be leaning towards Greg McElroy.
Manziel, Te’o and Klein selected as Heisman finalists
The Heisman Trust has announced the three finalists that will attend Saturday’s Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York. They are Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel, Notre Dame senior linebacker Manti Te’o and Kansas State senior quarterback Collin Klein. The ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Best Buy Theater in New York’s Times Square. Manziel is attempting to become the first freshman to win the Heisman. Te’o is looking to become the first “pure” defensive player to win the award. Klein appeared to be a slam dunk before Kansas State’s loss to Baylor. This is the first time since 2007 that two Heisman finalists won’t be facing off in the BCS national title game.

Clippers edge Jazz with big fourth quarter
Blake Griffin scored 30 points and Jamal Crawford came off the bunch to add 20 more as the Clippers used a 32-21 fourth quarter to hand Utah it’s first home loss of the season 105-104. Ex-Clipper Mo Williams had 20 points and 12 dimes for the Jazz who shot a blistering 56% from the field for the game but could not overcome 17 turnovers. At the betting window on Monday, dogs went 5-1 with the over/under splitting 3-3. Home teams were also just 3-3. “The Association” resumes play on Tuesday night with six games featuring the Thunder at the Nets and the Lakers at Houston.
Kentucky drops from No.8 to out after 0-2 week
One week after dropping from No.3 to No.8 in the AP 25, the Kentucky Wildcats dropped out of the poll all together after losing both games last week. UK lost at Notre Dame and then saw their 55-game home win streak snapped by Baylor. It was the biggest single-week drop from the rankings since they were expanded to 25 teams in 1990.
