(NCAAF) Louisville -3 over Cincinnati (Thursday, December 5, 2013 8:40 PM EST)
Louisville and Cincinnati are separated by just about exactly 100 miles and this local rivalry is called the Battle for the Keg of Nails. The Bearcats are on a current 4-1 SU and ATS run but the visitor is also 7-1 against the points in the last eight of the series. Even despite their 10-1 record, Louisville has to be considered somewhat of a disappointment and many preseason pundits had the Cards penciled in as a certain BCS Bowl team with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater a top contender for the Heisman Trophy and possibly an overall No.1 draft pick. Louisville controlled it’s own destiny before blowing a 14-point fourth quarter lead to Central Florida. They’ve been lethargic and unimpressive in most of their wins. Bridgewater has had a pedestrian season at best with an offense that has failed to convert in the red zone. Jury is out on the Cards on the road as they are 4-0 SU but just 1-2-1 the way we keep score. That said, their smallest margin of victory was by two touchdowns at Kentucky. Cincinnati is an in and out bunch that has won six straight after early inexplicable losses to Illinois and South Florida. They looked good in their last two wins, at Rutgers and at Houston but were life and death to beat SMU on this field in their last home game. In the end, we’ll lay the FG with the more talented team in a showcase nationally televised game. A loss here would pretty make this a failed season for a team that was destined for much better. We’re betting the Cards are made of “Stern-er” stuff. Louisville 27-17.
