| In Superfecta Betting, the general idea is to pick four horses that will finish in the top four positions. You can bet a straight superfecta, which requires you to pick the top 4 horses in finishing order; a superfecta box wager, which allows you to win on a combination of different finishes, or a superfecta wheel wager, which allows you to key in some horses to certain positions, while creating different combinations of horses finishing in the remaining positions.

Straight Superfecta Betting
Straight Superfecta betting is similar to straight trifecta betting, except you're picking the top four horses finishing in the first to fourth positions in the race, opposed to a trifecta bet in which your pick only the top 3 horses. Straight superfecta bets are great for novices, because all you have to do is pick four horses and hope they finish in the order you specify. Otherwise, the bet loses.
As a result, the odds are generally stacked against the bettor, but if you do happen to win a superfecta bet, you will get an extremely high payout, sometimes approaching $100,000's of dollars (particularly in big stakes races).
All straight superfecta bets require a $1 minimum bet.
Example: $1 Straight Superfecta on Horses 9-6-5-1 means you are betting $1 that horses 9, 6, 5, and 1 will finish first, second, third, and fourth in consecutive order.
Superfecta Box Betting
Superfecta Box betting requires some more advanced knowledge of horse racing, although the concept is relatively easy to grasp. With superfecta box bets, you're picking 4 horses that will finish in the top 4 positions in ANY order. In other words, with superfecta box betting, the order of finish doesn't matter as long as you have picked the top 4 horses correctly.
All Superfecta Box Bets cost a minimum of $1 per finish combination, for a total of $24 for a complete Superfecta Box.
Example: A $1 Superfecta Box on horses 3-6-2-7 means that there are 24 different possible winning combinations (see below) so your total wager is $24. The bet wins if horses 3,6,2 or 7, finish in the top 4 in ANY order.
Superfecta Box Combinations on horses 3,6,2 or 7 at $1 each:
Finishing 7-6-2-3 = $1
Finishing 6-7-2-3 = $1
Finishing 2-7-6-3 = $1
As you can see, betting a superfecta box creates a much greater number of winning combinations than betting a trifecta box. Even though there are more winning combinations, the cost of the superfecta box bet, however, is more than the trifecta box bet.

Superfecta Wheel Betting
Superfecta Wheel Betting is yet another form of Superfecta Betting, which allows the bettor the most flexibility in terms of finish order and horse preference. Unlike a Superfecta Box Bet, Superfecta Wheel Betting lets a horse bettor "key" or lock in a certain horse or horses to finish 1st, then a second "key" or lock in for a certain horse or horses to finish second, then a third "key" or lock in for a certain horse or horses to finish third, and finally a fourth "key" or lock in for a certain horse or horses to finish fourth.
Once the race is over, if any of the horses in your "first key" finish first, and any of the horses in your "second key" finish second, and any of the horses in your "third key" finish third, and any of the horses in your "fourth key" finish fourth, you have a winning ticket.
The cost of the Superfecta Wheel is determined by how many different possible combinations there are for the horses you choose.
All Superfecta Wheel Bets cost a minimum of $1 per combination.
Example 1: You believe horse 3 will win the race, and that horse is your first key. Next, you believe one of horses 2-7-6 will finish second, and that set is your second key. Then, you believe one of horses 2-7-6 will fiinish third, and that set is your third key. Finally, you believe one of horses 2-7-6 will finish fourth, and that is your fourth key.
Thus, this bet wins if horse 3 wins, follwed by any horse of 2-7-6 in second, followed by any horse of 2-7-6 in third, followed by any horse of 2-7-6 in fourth. This bet would cost $6.
Superfecta Example #1 Wheel Combinations on horse 3 to win; then 2 or 7 or 6 for second, then 2 or 7 or 6 for third, then 2 or 7 or 6 for fourth at at $1 each:
Remember, since you only keyed one horse to win, this horse MUST WIN or else the rest of the wager is null and void.

Superfecta Betting General Reference Tables
Superfecta Wheel, with one horse keying to win, and three other horses in any order (as in Superfecta Wheel Example #1 above):
Don't forget one other crucial element in this table: the odds on each horse to win the race. It makes sense to key in the favorite to finish first, and then any combination you feel will finish in the next 3 positiions. Alternatively, if you're a horse handicapper and have more knowledge about a given race than a regular horse bettor, your superfecta wheel bet might have any of 2 horses finishing first, 1 key horse second, and then any of 3 horses finishing third and fourth. The combinations are ALMOST limitless!
Remember, the longer the odds (or more remote the chances of a horse winning a given race) the higher the potential payout!
