Thanksgiving Day Football Preview
Houston at Detroit: The Texans are -3.5 road favorites against a desperate Detroit outfit. The totals has held steady at 49. Houston might very well be the best team in football but they have a three game division lead with six to play and off a short week with travel their motivation could be questionable. Remember how they mailed in the final month last year. Houston is 4-0 on the road will all four wins by six points. Detroit has lost five straight Thanksgiving Day game allowing 40+ ppg. A loss here would pretty much eliminate them from wildcard contention. Kickoff is at 12:30 PM EST on CBS and the game will be played indoors.
Washington at Dallas: The Cowboys have dropped from -4 to -3 point favorites off their miserable performance last week vs Cleveland. The Pokes are a miserable 3-14 ATS in their L17 games as home favorites. Home teams are just 1-5 ATS in NFC East division games this year. RGIII returns home to Texas with the fired up skins who should be brimming with confidence off Sunday’s 31-6 demolition of the Eagles. Condition will be perfect at Cowboy Stadium.
New England at Jets: The Pats are touchdown favorites in Thursday’s late show. The high/low has fallen from 51 to 48 1/2. New England has given up trying to stop people preferring instead to outscore them. That might not be as easy in their first game without Gronk. The Jets showed life off the bye with an easy win at St Louis. A re-energized Mark Sanchez will have to be nearly flawless for the Flyboys to spring an upset here. New England won the first meeting 29-26 at Foxboro back on October 21st. Kickoff is at 8:20 PM EST on NBC. It will be partly cloudy with a game time temperature of around 50 at the Meadowlands.
The boys at Bookmaker examine Thursday’s Turkey Shoot Card
TCU at Texas: The Longhorns no longer have Texas A&M as their Thanksgiving weekend rival but have found a pretty good replacement in TCU. Texas is a -7.5 point favorite with the over/under down from 58 to 56 1/2. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM EST on ESPN. Weather is expected to be perfect with a temperature at game time of 70.
College and NBA Hoops news and Notes
The Oklahoma City Thunder scored their first signature win of the season downing the Clippers 117-111 in overtime. The Dallas Mavericks handed the Knicks their second loss of the year with a 114-111 decision in Dallas. Vince Carter had 25 points including 5-6 from downtown and Shawn Marion shut down Carmelo Anthony’s potential game winner (Dallas iced it with two FTs late) to preserve the win.
Tuesday, Mike D’Antoni got his first win as the new coach of the Lakers in his L.A. debut. The Kings led by four after three quarters and blew things open with a 40-28 final stanza.

Hector Camacho clings to life
Boxer Hector “Macho” Camacho clings to life early Thursday as his family gathers to discuss his further treatment and whether he should be removed from life support. Camacho was shot in the face Tuesday night by two unknown assailants in a SUV. Doctors originally thought that Camacho would survive but he’s had several setbacks including going into cardiac arrest on Wednesday. Camacho has intermittent brain activity so he has not been clinically ruled brain dead.
NHL and NHLPA are still far apart
The league and the player’s association met on Wednesday and while the players apparently made some concessions to the league, there was no reciprocity back from the owners. The two side appear to be close on revenue sharing but are still miles apart on the “Make Whole” on current player contracts. The NHL is losing between $18-$20 million a day, every day there is no hockey. The players are losing about $10 million a day. The lockout enter its 68th day on Thursday.
