Surgeons across sports were busy on Wednesday

Kevin Love will miss 8-10 weeks after it was determined that he will need surgery to repair two broken bones in his right hand. Love broke the hand originally in the preseason and missed the first three weeks of the regular season despite returning earlier than expected. Love was averaging 18 ppg and 14 rpg but shooting just 35% from the field, far off his normal game.

As expected, RGIII had surgery on his knee. Dr James Andrews performed a “direct repair” of the lateral collateral ligament and “a re-do of his previous ACL reconstruction.” Andrews said after the procedure that because Griffin is so highly motivated, everyone was hopeful that he would make a complete recovery.

Cleveland Cavalier center and the leading rebounder in the NBA, Anderson Varejao, will need surgery on a split quadriceps muscle above his right knee and will miss a minimum of 6-8 weeks. The surgery will be performed today at the Cleveland Clinic. Varejao is averaging 14.4 rebounds-per-game and has been the focus of trade rumors among contenders needing a big man.
