RGIII update in NFL News and Notes
Reports coming out of Washington regarding the right knee of RGIII are not good. ESPN is reporting that Griffin has at least a partial tear of his LCL and likely also a partial tear of his ACL. It’s unknown how severe his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is because a previous knee injury he suffered at Baylor in 2009 required two screws and a rubber band to hold it together. SB3 will keep you posted on new developments.
In news surrounding teams still playing, the Seattle Seahawks took a major hit to the defensive line when an MRI showed DE Chris Clemens had torn his ACL and is out for the year. Clemons finishes the year with 40 tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and four passes defended.
Cowboy wide out Dez Bryant will have surgery today to repair his fractured left index finger. Bryant broke the digit December 9th vs Cincinnati but put off surgery while the Cowboys were still in the playoff hunt. In his three games after the injury, Bryant finished with 17 catches for 354 yards and three touchdowns.
The Jets have fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano and quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh as part of their post season shakeup. The Flyboys finished 30th in total yards, thank in large part to the horrific play of Gang Green QB Mark Sanchez.
Skiles and Bucks part ways, Howard and Gasol out indefinitely
USA Today is reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks and head coach Scott Skiles have mutually agreed to part ways effective immediately. The Bucks are 16-16 after a fast start and Skiles reportedly was amicable to leaving because “he hated his team”. Assistant Jim Boylan will serve as interim coach.
The Lakers will have to try and snap out of their three-game losing streak without their All-Star bigs Dwight Howard and Pao Gasol. Howard is suffering a partially torn labrum and Gasol is out with a concussion sustained in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. Both are out indefinitely.

Hockey resumes play Jan 19th with 48 game schedule
Just when it looked like there would be no hockey for 2012-2013, the NHL and the players have agreed on a new 10-year CBA. The Board of Governors meets on Wednesday to ratify the new deal with the new 48-game schedule to be released afterwards. The league has sent a memo to all 30 teams indication that camps will not open before Saturday and that play would start January 19th.
This would be the second 48-game season in NHL history, as that is the same number of games the league played in 1994-95 when half of that season was also lost to a lockout. That schedule contained nothing but intraconference games, and it’s expected that the 2013 schedule will be constructed the same way.
