UCF rolls over Ball State 38-17 at Beef O’Brady Bowl
Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles threw for three scores and ran for another as the Knights routed Ball State 28-7 in the Beef O’Brady Bowl Friday night. UCF rolled to 487 yards of total offense and held Ball State to a season low 17 points, 18 below the Cards season average. The Knights held the ball for nearly 13 minutes of the first, compiling a 159-15 advantage in total yardage and never looked back. Favorite and under players visited the cashier after the smoke had cleared.
There are two Bowls locked and loaded for Saturday as East Carolina meets UL Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl and Washington meets Boise State at the Maaco Las Vegas Bowl. UL Lafayette is the defending champion in New Orleans and the Cajuns are a -6.5 favorite over the Pirates today. The total has moved three points up to 67. The game kicks at 12:00 Noon EST. In the late game Boise State spots Washington 5.5 points in Sin City. The total has been bet down from 46.5 to 43. Kickoff is at 3:30 PM EST under perfect conditions at the Silver Bowl.
Falcons/Lions tonight in NFL Saturday nighter
Atlanta travels to Detroit tonight in a rare NFL Saturday night tilt. The line opened at Atlanta -3 with a total of 51 but the Dirty Birds have been bet up to -4.5 and the total steady. The Falcons have lost two of their last three road games with the win a life-and-death 24-23 victory at Tampa Bay. The Lions are 23-11 LT vs Atlanta but have lost three of the last four games in the series. Four of Atlanta’s last five games went under the total. Six of the last eight Lion games have gone over the total. The game is indoors so weather is not a factor,
Clippers spank the Kings for 12th straight
Friday night’s NBA action was highlighted by the LA Clippers franchise record 12th straight win, a 97-85 walkover against Sacramento. Chris Paul had 24 points and 13 assists while Blake Griffin chipped in with 21 points and 13 boards. The Clippers can extend their run and also set the franchise record for consecutive road games (5) with a win at Phoenix tonight. Los Angeles is 17-0 when leading after three quarters and 15-0 when holding an opponent under 43 percent shooting. The Kings shot 41.8 percent.

NHL Lockout Update
The NHLPA has voted to pass a disclaimer of interest opening the way for the players to suit the league for anti-trust damages. CBS Sportsline legal expert Eric Macramalla explains the difference between decertification and filing a disclaimer of interest.
“While decertification is the players walking away from the union, a disclaimer of interest is the union walking away from the players. So a disclaimer of interest occurs when the union terminates its right to represent the players. It’s also a less formal process than decertification. It can be as quick as Donald Fehr sending a letter to the commissioner’s office declaring the NHLPA no longer represents the players as a bargaining agent. There’s no vote, no petition and no decertification election.”
With no one to negotiate on the players behalf, the players can go to court and file an anti-trust suit. As the lockout enters it’s 98th day, it’s looking less and less likely like there will be hockey this year.
Edwin Jackson gets $52 million dollar deal from the Cubs
If Anibal Sanchez’s 5-year $80 million dollar deal with the Tigers wasn’t proof that Major League Baseball has lost it’s mind, we give you Edwin Jackson’s 4-year $52 million dollar deal with the Cubs. Jackson, 29, was 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 168 strikeouts in 189 2/3 innings in 2012. This season will be Jackson’s 11th in the majors and the Cubs will be his eighth team. Jackson is 70-71 lifetime with a 4.40 ERA. A solid middle of the rotation guy but certainly not worth $13 million per.
