NFL Week Seven Recap, Texans crush Ravens

Week Seven of the NFL produced a mixed bag or results with betting trends just about split right down the middle. Including Thursday night’s Seattle/San Francisco result, favorites are 6-5-1 (considering Minnesota a push) and the over/under deadlocked at 6-6. Home teams went a luke warm 7-5 this week and there were no straight up home dogs.

On the field, the Houston Texans made a statement by routing Baltimore 43-13. Houston rebounded from last week’s first loss of the year to Green Bay and proved that the Texans can play defense without MLB Brian Cushing. Houston held Joe Flacco to just 21-43 passing for 147 yards, a score, and two picks. The Texans outgained Baltimore 420-176, had 27 first downs to the Raven’s 12, and owning the ball for better than 38 minutes.

Eli Manning hit Victor Cruz with a 77-yard touchdown pass with just 1:13 remaining to lift the Giants to a 27-23 win over the Redskins. RG III had a couple of long touchdown passes to Santana Moss in a losing effort. Aaron Rodgers was nearly flawless for the second straight week going 30-37 for 342 yards and three touchdowns as the Packers dispatched the Rams 30-20. Drew Brees threw for 377 yards and four tochdowns in the Saints come-from-behind 35-28 win over Tampa Bay. In the late games, the Pats and the Raiders both won in overtime. Oakland came back from down 20-6 to win 26-23. In the Sunday night game, Pittsburg continued it’s dominance over Cincinnati with a 24-17 road win.

An old school black and blue division matchup between the Lions and Bears highlights tonight’s Monday Night Football action. The Bears opened as -6.5 home favorites and that number has not changed. The total is down half a tick to 47 from it’s opener. Chicago has won seven of eight in the series and are 5-1 ATS coming out of their L6 byes. All four of their wins are by 16+ and the lone loss was a short week Thursday night trip to Green Bay. Detroit looks to get back on track. Two of their last three games have gone to overtime. NFC dogs are now 34-7 for the year and not surprisingly the dog is 4-1 in Detroit’s five games. Kickoff as always is at 8:35 PM EST on ESPN. You will need to check weather closer to game time as there is a 60% chance of thunderstorms at Soldier Field with gusty winds. Game time temperature is expected to be around 65 degrees.
