OKC beats Clippers 109-97 in battle of NBA West heavyweights

Was the Thunder’s 109-97 victory over the Clippers a benchmark game in the battle for supremacy in the NBA West ??? Probably not as the Clippers were forced to play without their leader and the NBA’s best point guard in Chris Paul. The win did temporarily put the Thunder in the drivers seat for best record and home court throughout the playoffs. Kevin Durant had 31-7-7 for the Thunder while Blake Griffin had 31 and 11 boards in a losing effort.

JaMarcus Russell eyes comeback, now a svelte 308

The No.1 pick in the 2007 NFL draft is on the comeback trail. Generally considered one of the top three busts in NFL history, JaMarcus Russell is working out and to show that he is serious, has cut down from a robust 320 down to 308. In three seasons with the Raiders, Russell played in just 31 games, won only seven as a starting QB, and finished with a career 52.1 completion percentage while tossing five more interceptions (23) than touchdowns (18). Incredibly, this guy has been out of the league since 2009 but is still just 27.

Brodeur stops 24 shots for 120th career shutout

The New Jersey Devils improved to 2-0 and won their sold out home opener by whitewashing Philadelphia 3-0 on Tuesday. Travis Zajac and David Clarckson scored first period goals and Ilya Kovalchuck scored on a short-handed penalty shot in the second. The Flyers, the second or third choice to win the Eastern Conference, dropped to 0-3 ….. their worst start since the 1995 lockout shortened season.

Yesterday the new owners got it when they Time Warner agreed to to carry local Dodger games in a deal thought to be worth $7-8 billion. It looks like the Dodgers will be able to keep spending on players for a long long time to come.
