(NCAAF) Washington -3.5 over BYU (Friday, December 27, 2013 9:30 PM EST)

This is an interesting bowl with multiple side stories. Washington goes to its fourth straight bowl losing the last three, to Baylor and Boise State twice. The head coach that led the rebuilding from an 0-12 team (Sarkisian, who by the way was a BYU grad) to the current edition has bolted for USC and the ex-Boise State coach, Chris Petersen, will be watching and taking over after the game. BYU is a strange bunch that has been up and down. The Cougars lost their opener to lowly Virginia in a monsoon but owns quality wins over Texas, Utah State, Georgia Tech and Boise State. They also lost their rivalry game to Utah and matchups with Notre Dame and Wisconsin. The Coogs have won their last four bowls and have played a tough schedule and will not be overmatched here. That said, BYU is extremely limited offensively and scored 17 points or less in their four losses. The Huskie defense is fairly staunch holding six opponents to 17 or less and will be playing defense on offense by playing keep away with their power running game. Just one Washington game (a 31-28 loss to Stanford) of the 12 that the huskies played was decided by less than 10 points so it is fairly likely that the points will not come into play here. In the end, thinking that Washington will dominate BYU in the trenches and come away with a 27-16 kind of win.
