MLB drops the hammer on 13, A-Rod gets 211 games

The long awaited PED suspension have finally been handed down affecting 13 players. Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera ….. all All Stars were among those named. Twelve of the 13 were given 50 game bans and none will appeal. And then there is A-Rod who was given a 211 game ban that is set to start on Thursday. Rad all about the suspensions here.

MLB News and Notes

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the St Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Monday for their 15th straight road game tying the 1957 Reds for the second longest away win streak in MLB history. The actual MLB for most consecutive wins by a team with suitcase is 17 by the 1916 New York Giants.

The Detroit Tigers won their 9th straight game with a 4-2 win at Cleveland. The Tigers trailed 2-1 going into the 9th inning before Alex Avila’s three-run home off Tribe closer Chris Perez gave Motown the win.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Chicago White Sox snapped a ten-game losing streak by crushing the Yankees 8-1 at The Cell. The Pale Hose got to Andy Pettitte early and often and led 7-0 after three innings before going on cruise control.

Derek Jeter has been put on the DL for the third time this season with a Grade I left calf strain. The Yankee captain has already spent time on the DL for ankle problems and a quad strain.

Tony Stewart hurt in dirt track wreck, out for Watkins Glen

Tony Stewart broke both bones in his lower right leg in a dirt track wreck in Iowa and required immediate surgery. Stewart was leading a race on a half mile oval when another car spun taking out the three leaders. “Smoke” is currently 11th in the chase standings with just one win. No replacement has been named for the No.14 car for this week at Watkins Glen. Stewart-Haas Racing will release an update some time today and we’ll have it on SB3 on the Wednesday report.

Top HS pocket passing quarterback picks Tide

Think the long arm of the Crimson Tide isn’t strong ??? Alabama has signed the second rated pocket passing quarterback from the HS class of 2015. Rick Town of Ventura, California chose Alabama over Texas, Georgia and Stanford. This comes a year after the Tide locked up the top-rated QB from the class of 2014 who came from of all places, Norman, Oklahoma.

Pack lose Bulaga with ACL tear, sign Vince Young

In NFL camp news, the Green Bay Packers lost left tackle Bryan Bulaga for the season with an ACL tear. Not good news for Aaron Rodgers who lost the guy who would have presumably had his blind side. The Packers also signed Vince Young who will compete with Graham Harrell as Rodger’s backup.

Rooney requests transfer to Chelsea ???

Looks like Wayne Rooney wants out of Manchester United ….. again. Chelsea has sent a couple of offers over to Man Un but they were reportedly well below Rooney’s current market value. Rooney has 197 career goals for the Reds, just 50 behind Bobby Charlton’s club record of 247.
