Belichick breaks silence on Aaron Hernandez

New England Patriot coach Bill Belichick addressed the press yesterday for the first time since the arrest of TE Aaron Belichick basically gave a thumbnail of the timeline of his finding out about the arrest to the present while explaning the Patriot’s due diligence in selecting players and offering his thoughts to Olin Lloyd’s family. MLB News and Notes

Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson will require surgery on his broken right ankle and will be out for the season. Hudson broke the ankle when he was inadvertently run over by the Mets Eric Young Jr. while covering first base in the Braves 8-2 win.

Hall of Famer George Brett will step down as the team’s hitting instructor and will resume his position as President of Baseball Operations. The Royals hit .248 with Brett in charge, the were hitting .261 as a team before Brett took over.

John Wall and Washington close to $80 million extension

The Wizards and PG John Wall are close to a five-year $80 million dollar extension. Wall missed the first 33 games of last year with a knee injury but averaged 18.5 points and 7.6 assists as the Wizards finished the final 50 games right at the .500 mark. The Wizards have until October 31st to sign Wall to the long-term extension or the ex-Kentucky Wildcat will become a restricted free agent.

US and Panama advance to Concacaf Gold Cup Final

Landon Donovan scored twice and set up the third goal as the US national team advanced to the Concacaf Gold Cup final with a 3-1 win over Honduras. It was the national teams record 10th straight win, albeit against less than world class competition. The Americans will meet Panama, an upset 2-1 winner over over mexico in it’s semi, in the Sunday Gold Cup final.

NBC and Nascar sign new 10-year deal

NBC has signed a ten-year deal to televise the final 20 Cup races and the final 19 Nationwide races beginning in 2015.
