Canes lose leading rebounder for the weekend

The Miami Florida Hurricanes will be without their leading rebounder this weekend after center Reggie Johnson was forced to have a minor surgical proceedure on his left knee. Johnson will not play this weekend but could be back if the Hurricanes were to advance to the Final Four.

Pens blank Canadiens 1-0 for 13th straight win

The Pittsburg Penguins made a first period goal by Sidney Crosby stand up last night’s 1-0 Pittsburg victory over Montreal. “the Kid” took a pretty cross ice pass from Chris Kunitz and found the back of the net with a snap shot for his 15th goal of the campaign. It was the 13th straight win for Penguins who have not had last year’s Hart Trophy winner (MVP) Evgeni Malkin for 10 of those wins.

The Cleveland Browns have signed ex-Redskin/Raider/Brown quarterback Jason Campbell to a two year deal. Campbell, a first-round pick by Washington in 2005, has started 77 games and thrown 76 touchdowns during his NFL career.

The Baltimore Ravens have signed former Oakland Raider free safety Michael Huff to a three-year deal for a reported $6 million. Huff will likely take the spot of the recently departed Ed Reed.

Manti Te’o was happy with the results of his pro day on Tuesday. Te’o’s 40 time of 4.75 and 4.71 were slightly better than the 4.82 he ran at last month’s combine in Indianapolis.

US gets critical World Cup qualifying point in Mexico

Mission accomplished !!! The US went down to Stadio Azteca and stole a point with a little luck and some stonewall defense. Mexico pretty much dominated the match getting 19 shots on goal to the Americans one. The Tri also had 15 corners versus only two by the US. With the point, the US moves to third in the Conacaf hexagonal at 1-1-1. Mexico dropped to fifth with a second straight scoreless draw and 0-0-3 in the round robin. The top three group qualifiers get automatic bids to the World Cup. Azteca is one of the world’s most imposing venues seatung over 100,000 fans and the US was just 0-13-1 in World Cup qualifiers their prior to this draw.

Metta World Peace out with torn meniscus

The Lakers got more bad on the injury front when an MRI uncovered a partial lateral meniscus tear in the left knee of Metta World Peace. He’ll fly back to Los Angeles for further evaluation and no timetable has been set for his return. World Peace has played in 70 of L.A.’s 71 games (sitting one due to suspension) and averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
